Hello, The Cuddle Squad; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a group of filmmakers who met at film school. We all took the same production class. When people around the room were asked what their favorite films were, most classmates mentioned movies with French titles or offbeat art house choices. I think we all said Dumb & Dumber and Tommy Boy, and we knew instantly these were our people. Soon, we signed up for a 48-film competition where we had to make a short documentary in 2 days. We had to enter the name of our group, and Chad said something like,” As long as it’s not something dumb like the Cuddle Squad,” and that’s been the name of our production company since. 12 years, 4 movies, 2 TV series, and a bunch of commercials and sketches later, we’re still telling stories like “The Cuddle Squad.”
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it was easy or smooth?
The biggest struggles mirror what many people struggle with in their 20s or what a band may struggle with. Questions like” who am I?” Who are we?” Is this what we want to do with our lives?” get pushed about along the way. With experience comes wisdom, however, and I know we are wiser and better filmmakers because of all the stuff we’ve been through. We’re more like brothers than business partners at this point.

We are a production company out of Austin focused on telling comedy-centric stories with a lot of heart. We work with brands, businesses, other production companies, studios, networks, you name it. What sets us apart is our unique blend of talents and comedy. Jeff is a visual mastermind. Jon Michael can pull out excellent performances. Chad is a writing machine. And we all act, direct, and produce as well. It’s like a band where we’re comfortable switching instruments when needed, depending on the project. We lean on each other and provide excellent output as a result.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
We also have a deep love for the documentary. For all our comedy-focused work, there is a heart to what we do—telling stories of inspiring and uplifting individuals. We always want people to walk away feeling better for watching our work. I mean, Jeff and Jon Michael were nominated for a freaking Emmy.
