Community Highlights: Meet Todd Griffin of Veteran Lawn Care & Landscaping

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Griffin.

Hi Todd, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Veteran Lawn Care & Landscaping in 2014 after serving in the U.S. Army and being deployed overseas during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. When I came home, I knew I wanted to build something for myself and my family while staying connected to work I had always enjoyed. Landscaping was something I had experience with for years, and it gave me the opportunity to work outdoors and help people improve their homes and properties.

What started as a small operation grew over time as more homeowners and businesses in Hutto, Pflugerville, and Round Rock trusted us with their lawns and landscaping projects. My goal from the beginning was to run the company with the same values I learned in the military—show up when you say you will, work hard, and take pride in doing the job right.

Today we handle everything from regular lawn maintenance to larger landscaping projects like sod installation, planting, and outdoor improvements. It’s been rewarding to watch the company grow and to build long-term relationships with customers in the community. I’m proud of the work we do and the team that helps make it happen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most small businesses, there have been plenty of challenges along the way. When you first start out, you’re doing everything yourself—working in the field, trying to manage schedules, handle equipment, talk with customers, and keep the business side running at the same time.

Finding and keeping reliable help has also been one of the biggest challenges. Landscaping is hard physical work, and it takes the right kind of team to consistently show up and do the job well. Weather is another factor we’re always dealing with in Texas—rain, heat, and seasonal changes can affect schedules and workloads pretty quickly.

As the company has grown, another challenge has been balancing the day-to-day work with the business side of things like scheduling, customer communication, and planning ahead. But each challenge has also been part of the learning process, and over time we’ve built better systems and a stronger team to keep things moving forward.

At the end of the day, running a business always comes with obstacles, but seeing the results of our work and having customers who trust us with their properties makes it worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Veteran Lawn Care & Landscaping. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Veteran Lawn Care & Landscaping is a veteran-owned landscaping company based in Hutto, Texas. We provide residential and commercial lawn care and landscaping services throughout the Hutto, Pflugerville, Round Rock, and surrounding areas. Our services range from routine lawn maintenance and irrigation adjustments to sod installation, planting, flower beds, mulch, and larger landscape improvements like stone walkways and outdoor upgrades.

What really sets us apart is our approach to reliability and quality. We treat every property like it’s our own and focus on doing the job right the first time. A lot of our growth has come through word of mouth and repeat customers, which means a lot to us because it shows the trust people have in our work.

The values behind the business come from my time serving in the Army—showing up on time, working hard, and standing behind the work we do. We’re proud to be a veteran-owned company serving our local community, and our goal is always to make properties look better, healthier, and well-maintained while building long-term relationships with our customers.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was always someone who liked being outside and staying busy. I’ve always been more hands-on and the kind of person who enjoys working with my hands and seeing the results of what I’ve built or improved. I wasn’t the type to sit still very long—I liked being active, working, and figuring things out as I went.

That mindset carried into adulthood and eventually into the military. Serving in the Army helped shape a lot of my work ethic and discipline, and those values stayed with me after I came home. I’ve always believed in showing up, working hard, and doing things the right way.

Looking back, I think those traits are a big part of why I ended up starting my own business. I enjoy building something from the ground up and taking pride in the work we do every day.
