Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Porter
Hi Ben, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started photography when I was 14 years old. My first shoot was with Meals on Wheels., the project was portraits of people over 90 with Dan Rather. My Father was my teacher and throughout his career he won 4 Emmys. The next gig that propelled my career was with Amy Poehler, Smart Girls At The Party. One of my photos was used in The NY Times, which inspired me even more to master my craft. Recently after the loss of my Father this year, I have been spending more time on making the perfect headshot because portraits and lighting is how we would study all forms of photography. I have had the opportunity to work with amazing companies such as HEB, ESPN, Longhorn Network, Foxsports, Soundcloud, Nike, Seton, and several more. I love what I do and that will never change.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my career was challenging at first because getting all of the equipment you need to create a beautiful product can take time to build. I worked at whole foods while I was building my business and learning to become a photographer.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to cover all types of photography, from amazing events to headshots in the studio and finding the best angles to shoot architectural designs, this keeps my creativity flowing. I asked myself one day why I take photos then I came up with this. “As I take every photo of an individual, I release my soul, every time the shutter clicks, it allows me to tick on the same clock as the present soul that faces me to bring forth the being inhuman. This is not taught; this is me and will always be me”.
What’s next?
I want to continue to build my photo career and excel in my video career since thats why I grew up watching with my Father. Since we were always competitive, I know he would want to see me with more Emmys than him.
