Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodie Easley
Hi Jodie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Boxing has been a part of my life for over 15 years. I have had the privilege to compete at the amateur level and train with professionals. As I got into the sport, I quickly realized that boxing was not just exercise, it is a way of life. The focus, grit and determination that goes into even the most basic workouts has reverberations throughout many aspects of our day to day life. Even if you never step in the ring with someone. When I moved to Austin 5 years ago the local boxing community was very welcoming. The space that would become Easley Boxing was a local boxing fixture and I was embraced by the gym when I moved down. The former owner was looking to sell the gym because of health challenges. After much deliberation my wife and I decided to take it on. My wife and I started Easley Boxing with the goal of creating a space where people could make a positive change in their lives. We embarked on a mission to build a gym focused on inclusion, community, and personal growth.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Anything worth doing has some challenges but to quote Frederick Douglas “without struggle there is no progress”. It has been difficult to build the gym up while both of us also have full time careers outside of the gym but the gym community has been amazing and really has helped to keep the gym going.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Easley Boxing we pride ourselves on being a real boxing gym that is accessible to any and everyone. We have everyone from Amateur and Professional fighters to house moms and dads, all training together with authentic, rigorous and fun workouts. Everyone is welcome to train like a fighter whether you desire to compete or not. We are not a “boxing inspired fitness gym” we are a real-life boxing gym and love to teach the craft to anyone willing to learn.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
The thing I love as much if not more than boxing is cooking. I like to think of myself as a bit of an epicurean.
