Conversations with Alba Kimos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alba Kimos.

Hi Alba, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started baking very early, growing up in Venezuela, where food and celebration were always deeply connected. What began as something I loved naturally turned into something more intentional when I started a small dessert catering business with my twin sister in 2011.

After moving to Austin in 2017, I felt inspired to create something of my own, and that’s how Alba Artisan Bakery came to life. Over time, it evolved into a space where I could focus on custom cakes that feel thoughtful, refined, and personal to each celebration.

Today, my work is centered around creating cakes that are not only beautiful, but meaningful—pieces that reflect a sense of softness, simplicity, and care.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all—it’s been a meaningful journey, but not always a smooth one.

Starting over in a new city came with its challenges. Building a business from scratch meant learning everything again—finding my community, earning trust, and growing slowly, step by step. There were moments of uncertainty, especially in the beginning, when things felt quiet and I had to believe in what I was creating before others could see it.

Balancing the creative side with the business side has also been a learning process. It takes time to find a rhythm between making, managing, and staying inspired.

But each challenge shaped the way I work today. It taught me patience, intention, and to trust a slower, more thoughtful growth.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create custom cakes and a wide variety of desserts for weddings and special celebrations, with a focus on designs that feel refined, soft, and intentional. I’m especially drawn to a minimal, organic aesthetic—cakes that feel natural, balanced, and quietly elegant.

I’m known not only for the way my cakes look, but for how they taste. My flavors are moist, well-balanced, and never overly sweet. I offer a wide and thoughtful menu, and I accommodate all dietary needs, including vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options—while still delivering beautiful textures and rich, satisfying flavors. That’s something my clients truly value, and it’s often why they recommend me.

What I’m most proud of is the response I receive from my clients—their excitement, their kind words, and the way they feel seen and cared for through something I’ve created for them. Knowing that my work becomes part of such meaningful moments is incredibly special to me.

What sets my work apart is the way I approach the process—with calm, intention, and a deep sense of care. I’m not trying to follow trends or create something overly perfect. I let the process guide me, moving with a certain rhythm, and putting care and love into every step. I believe people can feel that in what I make, and it creates a sense of warmth and comfort.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is the time I spent with my twin sister. We were always together, finding simple ways to have fun—skating, dancing, making up games, and spending as much time outside as we could.

Climbing trees was something I loved doing on my own. I would stay up there for a while, just enjoying the quiet and being surrounded by nature. I’ve always been drawn to being outdoors, and that started very early.

It was all very simple, but those moments felt full and happy in a very natural way.
