Conversations with Alexander Peters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Peters

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started in 2019 with my first shoe design and it was off to the races. I am American born to Belizean and Nigerian parents in Seattle Washington, but grew up in Belize. I’ve always had an eye for fashion, partly due to my mother who instilled the basics, everything else I’ve garnered throughout my travels and schooling. I was initially inspired to create custom tees and such out of high school but I shelved it. It wasn’t until recently an opportunity to design Italian shoes became a reality for me, and since then, I’ve sold dozens, but not enough. My current designs are full-cut 4” heels and slip-on shoes with premium leather and hand-crafted by Italian artisans. I currently have several shoes to pick from and I am looking forward to creating more to choose from. Mostly perseverance, but my products do speak for themselves. Just Google me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No… it’s really difficult to navigate the world in which fashion resides, social media makes it even more tedious, but the hardest thing for me is trying to stand out among the masses. The fashion realm has boomed since 2009-2010 and the reality of it slowing any time soon seems indefinite. Since 2019, I’ve mostly used social media as my primary presence but I would seriously like to consider more avenues to expand my reach, like doing interviews, and attending fashion shows.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
An upcoming Fashion designer, I want to make Fashion more personal at the individual level. Too much homogenization nowadays which terrifies me… because why would someone want to look like someone else. You’re perfect already… Now let’s accentuate that. And not only that, way too many collaborations. Some make sense but others are ridiculous and utterly atrocious. I want to build a brand that is synoptic with Belize, which is where I get a lot of my inspiration from, hopefully even erecting an Haute Couture home there. I seriously think that would shake up the world.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Firstly, my mother who was a socialite by her own standard, single-handedly molded the aesthetic that is me., what to wear, how to wear it and so on. My wife is my biggest fan and supporter, plus she helps me with modeling. I’ve been inspired by Daniel R. Day who saw the connection between brands and their consumers and even potential ones and introduced high fashion into the urban areas, Karl Kani who fought to keep his identity sound from counterfeits, Virgil Abloh and Thom Browne, both who sought to redefine fashion and blur the lines of normalcy.
