Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Schlotterback
Hi Angel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I was 11, eating the best lasagna of my life with a view of the Leaning Tower of Pisa that I came to the stark realization that traveling will forever be an integral part of my life (if I had anything to say about it). I was going to find a way to travel for a living. Here I am now, 23 (almost 24!) still waiting for that dream to be fully realized. However, I haven’t spent the last 12 years twiddling my thumbs. I have since traveled to 32 countries and many states, soaking in stunning views, trying delicious and sometimes interesting food (e.g. guinea pig in Ecuador), and having experiences to last a lifetime.
The idea for Adventures by Angel was born in January 2024 as a result of a spontaneous solo trip to Puerto Rico in between being in Connecticut for work. I was chatting with a co-worker and he pointed out that I could make a business out of my passion. My ultimate goal is to curate unique, one-of-a-kind trips that match the vibes the traveler is hoping to achieve. In order to do this, I have been focusing on growing my social media presence to create buy-in – focusing on my travels, yummy food, trying new restaurants in Austin, and travel tips. I started my TikTok in July and now have 258 followers. I am excited to see what this year will bring and how I can continue to grow and differentiate Adventures by Angel.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As far as Adventures by Angel goes, it has been a pretty smooth road so far. The difficulty has been finding the time as I currently have a full time job and can’t dedicate to it as much as I would like. This sparked the pivot to focus on social media (for now) in the hopes of building a potential client base that may want to take a trip curated by me in the future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My current full-time role is a People Consultant, which stems from my major in college being Human Capital Management and Leadership. I would say I am known for always sporting a positive attitude even if the work pile is high. I lead a project management call every morning outlining our tasks for the day, and always supply a meme to keep it lighthearted and fun. Along with my passion for travel, I also have quite the passion for people. In high school, I helped raise $18,000 to help alleviate water insecurity. One of the biggest things that sets me apart from others is my gift of the gab and ability to talk to anyone, anytime and make them feel comfortable. This has come in handy through many aspects of my life, but especially in traveling. A prime example was when I was studying abroad during COVID, and got detained in Sweden due to my COVID test being 5 hours too late. I had to spend the night in the airport until the next flight out, but in the meantime was able to help a Somalian woman and Italian girl figure out their situations.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
There is definitely not just one! But something I vividly remember was our first (and only) RV trip to South Dakota and Mt. Rushmore. Even though the monument itself was slightly underwhelming, I remember the horseback riding to our cowboy breakfast and my dad getting scraped up on the luge coaster because he thought he could go as fast as me. It was one of the first family vacations I remember and will always hold a special place in my heart.
