Conversations with Austin Burton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Burton.

Hi Austin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I think the real catalyst for this whole journey sparked back in 2018. My friend showed me his sketchbook, and I remember thinking, ‘Wait… this is yours? And you’re not doing it for a class or to make money, just to express yourself?’ The very next day, I bought my first sketchbook and haven’t stopped drawing since.
From there, things snowballed in the best way: I went from doodling in that sketchbook to slapping my art on stickers and t-shirts, to selling them at artisan markets, and eventually doing commissions. Suddenly, what started as a side passion was becoming part of my identity.
All I wanted was to express myself authentically. Drawing opened that door, and now content creation has become what I’m most known for. For me, creativity isn’t about staying in one lane—it’s about following whatever lights me up.
I may not be a full-time creative (yet), but that’s the beautiful of the story. I’m building something real on my own terms while enjoying every step of the journey. Every piece of art or content I put out there is another step on this winding path I’m creating for myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road—but I think the biggest struggle has been learning to get out of my own way.
We’re our own biggest critics, and honestly, we’re usually our own biggest distractions too. Sharing any kind of art or creative work is vulnerable—it opens up this little window into who you are, and you have no control over how people interpret it.
Each new milestone can feel like staring down a cliff: your first art commission, your first brand collaboration, your first art show. They all feel huge—until you do them. And then you realize most of the fear was just in your head and, truthfully, no one’s watching you that closely.
At the end of the day, you just have to keep moving in a direction and trust that the rest will unfold along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
On the artistry side, I’m known for my minimalist line work style—with lots of geometric designs, nature scenes, and combinations of the two. What I love most about my style is that it’s playful yet clean. It’s simple on the surface, but there’s just enough detail to pull you deeper.
Funny enough, as much as I love to draw, a lot of people online probably know me mostly for my cold plunge and lifestyle videos.
I think what ties each piece together, whether it’s on paper or on camera, is that my personality shines through. For me, it’s never about creating something ‘perfect’; it’s about making something that feels like an extension of who I am.
And honestly, I’m proud of every single piece I make. Sure, some are personal favorites, but each drawing and each video captures a real-time thought, idea, or moment of mine—and that kind of creative fingerprint is impossible to replicate.

How do you think about happiness?
A lot of things make me happy, especially the little things—like doodling while listening to Mac Miller, a long walk with ice cream in hand, or a good, deep conversation. Pretty much anything that gets me out of my head and into the present moment.
But honestly, traveling to new places with the people who mean the most to me is probably the best feeling in the world. There’s just something about shared experiences and new adventures that lights me up every time.
