Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Aubrey.
Benjamin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
An artist of all sorts, and I’ve always been a creative. I was originally born in Oceanside, California but I’m a military kid so I have moved around constantly since a young age. I went to high school in Jacksonville, Florida, graduated in Havelock, North Carolina and went to college in Winter Park, Florida. I can firmly say that because of that, I have been through plenty of experiences and have met people from all over. Before taking the two-day drive from North Carolina to Austin, I originally planned on moving to Miami but things just didn’t align and all of a sudden everything fell into place to come here and I’ve been loving it since I got here.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a little bit of a challenge. I moved to Austin alone, with whatever could fit into my car and took the two-day drive (and some help from my tax returns) and made it here. Before that I was living with friends and doing what I could to make music, sadly as it mostly goes, old friends rarely stick around and I had to restart and that’s what brought me here. Since being here it’s been quite a bumpy ride but I’m making it work and meeting people that are definitely helping me along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started producing music in 2013 being a producer at first but over time wanted to give writing a try and loved it. I learned to do everything from mixing, recording, and mastering all myself so I could just put music out on my own time. I have influences from all over and I feel my sound is unique because I was a military kid and moved around a lot as a kid. From being born in Oceanside, California, going to school in Florida and moving to Austin from a small town in North Carolina. I like to incorporate the sounds and influences I’ve experienced into my music. Now living in Austin, I’m slowly and carefully getting into contact with wonderful people and places that have and will significantly boost my career and help me make great music.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I am a people person, I’m creative and determined. I feel that as long as I keep going there’s no way I can fail.
