Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Patricia Garza
Hi Brenda Patricia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The entertainment industry has always captivated me. From a young age, I felt a deep connection to storytelling and performance. At just seven years old, I knew I wanted to be on television in some capacity. Over time, I began appearing in commercials, but my true journey in the industry didn’t begin until my early 20s when I was fortunate enough to host *Club Affairs*, a locally aired TV show.
Life, however, took me on a different path. I chose to pause my career aspirations to focus on my most important roles—being a mother and wife. It wasn’t until my late 30s that I reignited my passion, a moment that came full circle when I became a board member of the *South Texas International Film Festival*. That experience reminded me of the dreams I had set aside and inspired me to pursue them once again.
With no formal acting training or auditioning experience, I took a leap of faith. I saw a casting call for an indie film on a local Facebook group and decided to give it a shot. But fear nearly held me back—I sat in my car outside the audition, debating whether to stay or leave. Just as I was about to drive away, a voice in my head whispered, “If you don’t do it now, you’ll never will.” That push was all I needed. I walked in, auditioned, and two weeks later, I received an email saying I had booked the role.
On the eve of the COVID-19 pandemic, *You Are My Home* premiered on Netflix. Suddenly, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing. Emails poured in with casting opportunities, and for the first time, I found myself juggling a full-time job alongside a flourishing acting career. A difficult decision lay ahead—I could either continue splitting my time or fully commit to my passion. I turned to my husband and said, “Give me a year. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll go back to a desk job.” His response was simple but powerful: “Follow your dream.”
With his support, I took the leap, yet again. I signed with The Blanco Agency and began booking projects almost immediately, becoming the agency’s Most Booked Female for two consecutive years. Then, the industry faced an unexpected halt—the actor and writer strikes. Auditions that once came daily slowed to just a handful per month, and I found myself at a crossroads once again.
Determined to stay in the industry, I explored new opportunities. After auditioning for a local director, I didn’t land the role—but I was offered something even more transformative. I was asked if I had ever worked as a First Assistant Director (1st AD). Though I had directed an award-winning documentary short, I had never been part of a production team in that capacity. I hesitated for a moment but then responded with confidence: “No, but I’m a quick learner.” That single decision reshaped my career.
Since that pivotal moment, I established RGV Talent Consulting offering acting classes, workshops, masterclasses, production and casting services. With that, I expanded my expertise beyond acting—producing, casting, coordinating, and managing a diverse range of projects, including commercials, short films, radio campaigns, photoshoots, music videos, and user-generated content (UGC) for local, regional, and international markets. Today, I am deeply grateful for the journey that has led me here and for every opportunity that has allowed me to grow and thrive in an industry I love.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into the person and professional I am today. Like many in this industry, I’ve faced moments of self-doubt, rejection, and uncertainty. One of my biggest struggles was simply taking that first step—walking into my very first audition. Fear almost held me back, but pushing through that moment changed everything.
Balancing family and career was another challenge. When I first pursued acting, I had to put my dreams on hold to focus on raising my children. And when I finally returned to the industry, I had to make tough choices, like leaving the security of a stable job to follow my passion full-time. It was a leap of faith, but I was determined to give it everything I had.
Then came the industry-wide strikes. After gaining momentum in my acting career and becoming *The Blanco Agency’s Most Booked Female* for two years straight, the sudden halt in auditions was a harsh reality check. Going from daily auditions to just a handful per month forced me to reevaluate my path. I knew I couldn’t just sit and wait for things to change—I had to adapt. That’s when I shifted my focus to production, stepping into roles as a producer, coordinator, and assistant director.
Each challenge—from the fear of failure to industry setbacks—has tested my resilience. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that every obstacle is an opportunity. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth every struggle, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear many hats in the entertainment industry, but at my core, I’m a storyteller—whether that’s through acting, producing, casting, or coordinating productions. I specialize in bringing creative visions to life, from pre-production planning to on-set execution. My background spans commercials, short films, music videos, radio spots, photoshoots, and user-generated content for local, regional, and international markets.
Many people know me for my versatility and ability to adapt to any role within a production. As an actor, I’ve had the privilege of working on projects for Verizon, Academy, Rocket Mortgage, Schlitterbahn Water Park, Pure Life Water, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and an array of short and feature films. However, what truly sets me apart is my transition behind the camera. When the industry slowed down due to the strikes, I pivoted and found my footing as a producer and coordinator, proving that my passion for this industry extends far beyond being in front of the camera.
I take pride in my ability to problem-solve under pressure, organize productions seamlessly, and bring a contagious energy to every set. My work ethic and adaptability have earned me a reputation as someone who can be counted on to get the job done—no matter what challenges arise.
One of the things I’m most proud of is taking risks that have led to unexpected opportunities. Saying “yes” to a 1st AD position with no prior experience was a game-changer for me. That single decision opened the doors to a whole new side of the industry, allowing me to produce, manage, and coordinate projects that I never imagined I’d be a part of.
What sets me apart is my relentless drive—my love for collaboration, and my ability to navigate both the creative and logistical sides of production. Whether I’m on set as an actor or behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly, my goal is always the same—to create something meaningful and help bring a vision to life.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible people who have supported, guided, and believed in me along the way.
First and foremost, my husband deserves so much credit. When I was at a crossroads, deciding whether to leave my stable salary job to pursue acting full-time, he didn’t hesitate. He simply said, “Follow your dream.” That unwavering support gave me the courage to take a leap of faith, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to have mentors and advocates in the industry who saw something in me before I even saw it in myself. The producer of “Find Me” who first asked if I had ever worked as a 1st AD played a huge role in reshaping my career. Instead of letting my inexperience hold me back, I took the opportunity—and that decision opened the door to so many more.
My agent, Lydia Garza, from The Blanco Agency has also been instrumental in my journey. Signing with her gave me access to opportunities I never imagined, and her belief in me led to becoming the actor that I am today.
The wonderful directors, producers, and crew I’ve had the opportunity to work with on all the sets I’ve have the privilege of being a part of, and the actors I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to cast—have also been a major part of my growth. This industry is built on collaboration, and I’ve been lucky to work alongside talented, hardworking individuals who push me to be better every day.
Lastly, I have to acknowledge the South Texas International Film Festival. Being part of this organization rekindled my passion for the industry, reminding me of the dreams I had put on hold for so long. It was the spark that set everything back into motion.
I also have to thank my children, who have been my biggest inspiration and motivation. Every sacrifice, every late-night shoot, every audition—it’s all been for them. Their patience, love, and encouragement fuel my drive to succeed. Watching me chase my dreams has, in turn, taught them to chase theirs, and that’s the greatest reward of all.
Success is never a solo journey, and I am beyond grateful for every person who has played a part in mine.
