Conversations with Brittany Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Johnson.

Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started painting murals a little over 3 years ago, shortly after I moved to Austin. The creativity of the city and community here inspired me to start painting again after nearly 10 years off. Once I finally got the courage to try spray painting at Hope Outdoor Gallery, I was hooked. I painted as much as I could in my free time and was able to leave my job in healthcare last year to pursue art full time. It is still beyond my wildest dreams that I get to do this for a living and I wake up everyday grateful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the real struggle was believing in myself enough to know I could do this full time and make a career out of it. It took many years of unlearning and many hours painting. Each piece I made gave me a little more confidence than the last and as my confidence grew I gained the courage to leave the “safety” of my other job. Learning to trust and giving my all to art has opened many doors for me. I think the Universe responds well when you know exactly what you want and do it with all of their heart. I love murals so much this part is now easy for me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in portraits and realism. I have loved painting people ever since I was young. I think this is because I really just love people. It makes me feel more connected in the world and I think this is now more important than ever. I want my work to do for others what art has done for me, which is live a happy and joyful life.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Reach out! I love talking all things art with people and I love collaborating.
