Conversations with Chris Millar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Millar.

Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was a freshman at Sam Houston State University when I began a really dark battle with depression. In the midst of that season, I connected with a group of college students who shared about the good news of Jesus dying for me because He loved me. That news changed every part of my life.

9 years later, God gave us a vision to start a new church reaching college students in San Marcos at Texas State University. We moved here with a small team and have seen a beautiful, multi-generational church begin and now flourish.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Outside of starting a church in the middle of Covid, we also had to navigate the tensions that come along with moving multiple families to a new city. From struggling to find jobs to new relational dynamics, those first 18 months were incredibly challenging.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I get to serve as the Lead Pastor of our church. Primarily, I help people discover and live out God’s good design for their lives as seen in the Bible and the words and ministry of Jesus. In more common parallels, I spend my time developing leaders, caring for families, and leading our church.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Some of my favorite authors are Paul David Tripp, Eugene Peterson, and Tim Keller. I spend a lot of time reading and studying the Bible, which is one of the most life giving parts of my job.
