Conversations with Christopher / Lysten Crenshaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher / Lysten Crenshaw.

Hi Christopher / Lysten, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I remember meeting hip-hop at an early age. I remember the age of eight getting in trouble because my mom found my rhyme book, and I had curse words spilled all wrong. At 13, I joined my first two hip Hop groups at the same time. Off The Block Boys/ K.L.U.B Ent. It was during that time that I experienced street life for the first time. It puts a certain level of substance behind a young writer’s pen. It was during this time that my writing developed meaning behind it. I learned that writing music wasn’t about rhyming words I was about expressing oneself and the day-to-day experiences one went through. At that time, it only lasted a short period, and then I hung up my rap jacket for 17 years, had kids, and tried to live what one would call a stand-up life, but for some reason, the music kept calling me back. After living a life full of ups and downs, I finally decided to step back into the music realm. A close friend of mine sent me a beat and told me he felt this would bring me back. I picked up the pen and never looked back. It’s been a year and a half since I picked the pen back up. And in that time frame, I started my empire, Just Vibe Music. I have released one joint album (Didn’t See It Coming) with that same childhood friend who first sent me that beat. His name is Cas. Also, in the past year and a half, I’ve been fortunate to open for artists such as Beatking, Young Dro, and Lil Wil (my Dougie). I also performed at SXSW in 2022 for coast-to-coast life. Also, I met my music manager and am now co-CEO of JustVibeMusic, DJ ladybug. Since then, we have evolved JVM to more than just music; now, we have the just vibe menu, which provides catering. We have the entertainment sector that provides multiple comedians and just vibe media, which we’re breaking into podcasting. Throughout this past year and a half, I have also released five music videos and am working on my latest solo album entitled “The BadGuy Season 1”. All the readers out there want to let you all know that J.V.M is here, and we’re only growing.

Thank you,
Lysten

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
We all have ups and downs and setbacks on our paths and roads. It just all depends on how you view your obstacles. Some things one might consider a challenge, while others might consider a blessing. For me, I had no obstacles or challenges. I have had multiple learning experiences that have molded me into the person I am today and will prepare me for the person I need to be tomorrow.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do?
Although I work professionally as a certified debt specialist, I am also a music artist. I am proud that I jumped back into the music scene after so long, earned my respect and my position, and became a factor in my neighborhood, city, and state in such a short amount of time.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The most I like most about it is the diversity among each other. The passion we have for music and culture it’s in the air. It’s like you breathe substance and inspiration.
