Conversations with Clarissa Saucedo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarissa Saucedo.

Hi Clarissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a super creative person, I’ve always loved painting, sculpting, doing arts and crafts, and drawing. In addition to that I’ve always loved getting my nails done, I remember playing nail salon with my grandma and tias as a kid. I’d previously worked at the salon I work at now but under a different job title (front desk/salon manager) and in 2023/2024 I was really wanting to do something more fulfilling and expressive.
Upon venting to a friend she proposed how come I didn’t go to school to get my nail tech license and that’s when it all clicked. I started school shortly after, got my license in the summer of 2024, and Ruined Manicure was born. I then was able to continue working at the salon I’ve worked at the past 6 years just in a different way and I couldn’t be more grateful.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not a smooth road at all. I’m fully independent and going to school and trying to work enough to pay for school and bills was an obstacle in itself. In addition to that there are some things beauty school just doesn’t teach you and navigating those things after school and trying to build a clientele and perfect my skills was hard work. This job is definitely a job that requires continued education and you have to be willing to keep up with nail trends and learn new mediums. It really keeps me on my toes. I’m thankful to be where I’m at today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a nail technician who specializes in detailed nail art as well as 3D nail art. I’m know for my funky, out of the box, and unique nail art. There are lots of sets I’m pretty proud of. That’s the goal ya know! I want to finish a set on a client and be proud of it that’s always the end game. I find it a fun and challenging to create art on such small canvases in addition to that I find it even more fun when the design itself is intricate. I think what sets me apart from others is that I almost will never say no to a design, like I stated earlier I love a good challenge and really like to push myself creatively. Whether the clients nail inspo is a book cover, a lamp shade, or song lyrics, I’m absolutely game!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a kid I was pretty quiet and shy but always creating something. I think as I got older that dissipated and I became a little more extroverted but the creating never stopped. I was definitely one of the weird kids growing up but along with that the need for making more meaningful art with different mediums grew. It was a dream of mine to be an artist even though I didn’t know exactly what that meant for myself, I just knew I wanted to paint and be creative. Art was a way that I could express the feelings I had in relation to the things I was going through. Creating art allowed me to really be myself and I’m forever grateful for that. Being a nail tech, still being able to create art, and doing what I do truly feels like what I should be doing and makes me happy.
