Today we’d like to introduce you to Delphinus .
Hi Delphinus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up in the church listening to Southern Gospel music and Hymns. My Dad was the music director and a vocal coach, so I learned a lot from being around him. My whole family sings, so it’s always been a big part of my life. As I got older, in my pre-teens, I started to get into all kinds of Electronic music; my favorites at the time were artists such as Blümchen, Alice Deejay, Björk, and Ian Van Dahl, to name a few. If I wanted something more chill, Enya would be on. I loved to dress up like an early 2000s techno DJ and put together funky colorful outfits! During my school years, I was in choir and musical theatre, so the stage has been a 2nd home for me. I got to live out my childhood dream after high school: to go to Berlin and see where many artists I loved played often! When I got to my 20s, I met many of my favorite artists at SXSW. My favorite memory was when I was the only fan at a Charli XCX show in the back of Urban Outfitters. I sang every lyric while dancing in front of her. It set the match in me to be a Recording Artist. I wanted to make others feel so alive the way I felt at her set! In my late 20s, I moved to Denton, TX, and I heard every genre in a small college town setting. This is where the seeds of my debut album, “Age of Aquarius,” were planted. For the last 3 years, I worked almost every day on it and created hundreds of songs til I got down to 12 that I loved. I’d describe my sound as genre-bending, Ethereal Pop music, as it has had many musical influences throughout my life. It is music made for everyone of every age to dance to and have fun with!
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I think my biggest challenge was my mental health. I was bullied a lot throughout my life for being a bit of a weirdo. I was scared to put myself and my art out there. I’m thankful I didn’t stop being authentic despite all the backlash. The tracks on my album are about everything I wanted to say to myself during those harder times. I hope that the music can help someone else that listens at some point in their life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud that I created the sound that I was looking for throughout the internet for most of my life. I sing, dance, and love to be a storyteller. I specialize in music that is transportive for the listener and uplifts people through sonics. What sets me apart is that I truly “Keep Austin Weird”! I’m known for being a Hill Country Goddess in this beautiful region of Texas.
We love to hear about any fond memories you have from growing up.
Nature will always be my biggest source of inspiration. My favorite childhood memory is frolicking through the forests. I loved listening to the birds there. I grew up in the country by a lake.
