Conversations with Dominique Davalos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Davalos.

Dominique, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I come from a family of Artists. I was raised to always follow your heart. A perfectly blissful life working in film and TV and hanging out on Santa Monica Beach with friends. I have been a worldwide touring session musician and Actor for 25 years working whenever jobs would periodically pop up until one day at 39 years old I looked in the mirror and thought… Oh NO! I have no retirement plan. After playing shows in Austin through the years, I thought it was a good place to invest in. I took a two months course in Real Estate and a light switch went off. I could still play music and invest in a future. In a short time, I have purchased a portfolio of positive cash flow rental properties. Bankers and loan officers had laughed at me saying I could never get a loan because of my loan to value ratio but I kept persisting and asking questions and found a way. I built up and sold a vacation rental business and then was able to build my dream home the hard way. I had to share contracting duties because I couldn’t afford an experienced contractor. My contractor had not built a home from scratch. It took me three years and many painful hours in city permit office but it only cost me $240,000 and now worth more than triple. I literally dove in hitting brick wall after brick wall and climbed over em. Its been hard but very exciting as well and I have learned so much. With in ten years, my properties have all tippled in value. Now I dedicate my life to helping my clients and friends grow their investments by buying and selling resale and new construction homes and at the same time, I can write and play live music……….. As mom always says ~where there is a will there is a way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My Mother was a Martha Graham Dancer and my Father was an Actor. He was known for playing James Deans brother in East of Eden therefore Art is an inevitable force in my life.

I grew up in LA and also New York playing In bands and also worked in Film and TV.

Austin seemed like a great place to settle for the time being to work and play as there is so much going on here.

Great venues, restaurants new businesses and exceptional quality of life for the money.

So….now I’m a Realtor by day and Musician by night.

My Bands are

And I’m starting a new band that will be out next summer.

How do you think about luck?
It seems when you open your mind and heart… write down your goals and point yourself in the right direction. Have faith… doors will open. You just must be able to recognize the door then give it a push.
