Conversations with Elise Krentzel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Krentzel.

Hi Elise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I discovered my writing talent as a pre-teen, starting with diaries, and a high school newspaper published my work as a music journalist. My big break? Well there were 3. Circus Magazine published my articles, and then toured Japan with KISS writing exclusives for Canadian and British magazines, before becoming the Tokyo Bureau Chief of Billboard Magazine.

With a rogue entrepreneurial career spanning media, communications, and digital publishing, I’ve never put down the pen—or my curiosity. Think of me as an archeologist for your talent and ideas, unearthing the hidden gems buried in your mind. Through ghostwriting, personalized book coaching, publishing services, and online courses, I help shape those treasures into powerful, polished stories.

As a storyteller, I find endless joy in painting vivid canvases—not only for my own books but for others’ stories as well. There’s no greater satisfaction than helping others reach a level of writing excellence they’ve always envisioned but haven’t achieved on their own, while also crafting my own narratives along the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the biggest struggles have been financial, interpersonal, and geographical.
I have bootstrapped all my businesses and there were times I definitely wanted to throw in the towel. Other times I had to take other jobs just to keep my physical self afloat but not losing sight of the big goal which did pay off.

Interpersonally, well I chuckle when I think about my boldness (in a less than flattering manner) when I was in my 20s and 30s. Men were not used to a powerhouse, outspoken woman like I was, and am. Then I didn’t have the finesse that experience and age teaches you, whether you like it or not! Had I been male the same slings and arrows would not have been shot at me, for sure!

Geographical. I chose to start and fund businesses in Japan, Switzerland, and The Netherlands, three of the five countries I’ve called home over my lifetime. PS – Texas is my sixth country 🙂
It was not always easy to learn and overcome societal norms, cultural differences, legal aspects and expectations. But I did.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known as an artistic archeologist of words who excavates the hidden talents and stories locked within a person’s mind. I do this for my ghostwriting clients and for myself when I’m creating a new book. My specialty is the sum of my life experience: a rogue approach towards the essence of what makes a person tick. Upon discovering this, I can assist my clients with authoring, coaching, story development, or editing. The editorial services I offer are spokes in the wheel of storytelling from a personal perspective: theirs or mine.

What sets me apart? Ah. First off I am an entrepreneur so my background is authentic to my market. CEOs and business owners relate to me as I’ve been where they are or where they’re going. I’ve lived in five countries for 25 years, so my world view is global, which gives way to more metaphors. Besides, my mind is iterative and connects to concepts that are not traditionally linked.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about Austin is the way it has embraced me and given me a soft landing when I needed it 14 years ago.
Least, well it’s a laundry list but if you truly wish to know here goes.

1. The lack of public transport
2. The state’s overreach
3. Government authoritarianism that deprives women of abortion and health care
4. Unoriginal architecture
5. Overrated food scene
