Today we’d like to introduce you to Felisha Cockran Nwoko.
Felisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, I quickly moved into the corporate world. During my free time, I enjoyed planning and decorating parties for my own personal events as well as family and friends. After my daughter Leah was born in 2013, I began planning the biggest 1st birthday party for her which led me to the realization that I had a talent that I wanted to share with others. After almost 13 years in the Business & Finance Industry, I took a leap of faith to pursue my true passion in life with the inception of Exquisite Events Austin. I now offer Luxury Balloon Decor and Event Planning Services in Austin, Texas and surrounding areas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Everything started off very well in September of 2019. Within a few weeks of officially being a business owner, I got my first paid gig from some very special clients (who have called me every year since.) I began receiving calls, emails and inquiries on social media and quickly had tons of content for my new website. I started collaborating with local vendors in Austin and networking to build a strong presence for what was sure to be my breakout year. Then Covid-19 turned that smooth road into a very bumpy one when the events industry came to a screeching halt.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My company’s motto is “Luxury Balloons, Glitzy Shindigs….Exquisite Events.” I specialize in creating high-end, celebrity-style, Instagram-worthy events that your guest will talk about for years and you will remember for a lifetime. I’m most proud of the fact that I have been able to start a business of my own, pivot during a pandemic and maintain during very uncertain times. What sets me apart is I’m constantly researching trends and getting inspiration from the most unlikely places to give my clients a one-of-kind experience.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those who are just starting out is to remember the old adage “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Have a plan, pace yourself and believe in your abilities. Don’t get bogged down with what other people in your industry may be doing or have done. Invest in yourself by taking classes and continuing to learn. Be your unique self in all that you do. That’s what will shine through in your work and set you apart.
