Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaby Belusar.
Hi Gaby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Gaby, I am a mom, a wife, a sister, a daughter, and I love my family and friends. I am from Venezuela and I always had a ¨Passion for Fashion¨. I am so excited to start my own business doing what I love to do! I am combining different concepts in each of my pieces. One of my main goals when I am designing a piece is upcycling (the act of taking something no longer needed and giving it a second life, a fashionable one in this case) and then, creating beautiful accessories that make a statement. No mass production, just more love! Come join me and start Upcycling!!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Personally, I have struggled with the competition from mass production. Yes, I know it’s unavoidable, but that has been my biggest challenge. That’s why I dedicate so much time and effort to every detail, ensuring each piece I create is unique and different. I pour my heart into my work, and when someone chooses to purchase one of my designs, it truly means the world to me. It’s more than just a sale—it’s a connection, a recognition of the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into every piece. That support fuels my passion and reminds me why I do what I do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Wow, that’s a very good question! I feel like I do a lot of things! I am a retired graphic designer, which is where I learned about creating and balancing looks, materials, and composition—skills that continue to influence my work today. I also teach exercise classes, which keeps me active and allows me to help others stay healthy. And the newest addition to my journey is being a Pre-K aide at a small school in our church, which has been both rewarding and full of joy. Each of these roles brings something unique to my life, and I love how they all connect in unexpected way My biggest pride, I must say, is my kids. I have a son in college and a daughter who is a junior in high school, and they keep me both grounded and energized. Watching them grow, work toward their dreams, and navigate life with determination fills me with so much joy. They inspire me every day, and no matter what I’m doing—whether it’s designing, teaching, or creating—I always carry the love and motivation they give me.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Since starting my small business back in 2021, I have learned so much. As a small business owner, I know that every decision falls on me, and if I don’t put in the hard work, I won’t see results. It’s tough out there, with so much competition, but I push myself every day to stand out, try new things, and evolve to keep my work fresh and exciting. The journey hasn’t been easy, but the growth, creativity, and connections I’ve gained along the way make it all worthwhile.
