Conversations with Graciela Macedo owner of Gracelashhouse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Graciela Macedo.

Hi Graciela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Working in the beauty industry and being a makeup artist for four years, I had the opportunity to study different clients’ likes and dislikes when it came to lashes. I would either hear “no lash fit my eye-shape” or “I want something natural but dramatic”. Every eye-shape is beautiful and I want everyone to see that. I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to feel beautiful, inspired, empowered and comfortable with what is laying on their lash line. I recognized an opportunity to design a vegan lash collection using clean ingredients, different sizes and style fibers, and of course cruelty-free. I was able to achieve many styles that are multi-use, high quality and comfortable.

Another thing that I came to realize about my clients, which also brought me close to achieving my dream of creating a beauty line, was hearing them say how much they wished and desired to look like someone else. The question I would ask was, “WHY do you want to look like someone else when you can become your own kind of beauty”? Listening to their negative thoughts about themselves made me work even harder on my beauty line in order to make the perfect beauty line to help my client’s self-esteem and empower them.

I implemented the same idea when I started Gracelashhouse. While I studied other lashes having the same process of making and discovering the little to no care behind them, I realized that I wanted this brand to start and grow differently. I wanted Gracelashhouse to have its own unique beauty.

Each lash from Gracelashhouse is sketched out and digitally designed by me and carefully handmade by our lash partners. We have our clients in mind during our design process in order to give them the perfect lash that fits their eye, the look they are going for and to help them become their own kind of beauty.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Standing next to God and having faith in him, our process has been a tremendous blessing and smooth overall. Gracelashhouse has been holding her structure thanks to praying every single day. Starting every morning with a prayer and positively thinking, I came to realize that I can overcome any obstacle that comes in my way. A quote from my mother that always stuck with me was, “if a door closes, that means it wasn’t meant for you and the right door will open soon for you to succeed.” Yes, many doors were shut for Gracelashhouse, many backs were turned and many people didn’t believe in me as a new business owner, but with a strong mindset I was able to find the right path.

My advice is to be patient, the wrong people will fade away and the right circle of friends will start coming to you. This been said, I met a wonderful community such as the Austin Latina Bloggers founded by Bessy Martinez in Austin TX, who helped Gracelashhouse by creating opportunities to connect, network and collaborate. My next advice is to be opened to networking and most importantly have faith in yourself. I had faith that my creation was one day going to help those who need a little push to feel beautiful, and here I am, empowering others every single day.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Latina entrepreneur that still carries many values instilled by my parents. My parents raised me in thinking you are nothing without your family, you are nothing without your community. My parents never fail to remind me that those around me, like the lady who cleaned houses, the man who was the cook, or the immigrants working long hours, were the ones to respect and admire. I am proud of where I grew up at and who I grew up with because this is what made me who I am now, a humble entrepreneur. A humble entrepreneur who was ready to learn, dive in the beauty industry, keeping God in my heart and growing with my family and community. Most importantly, I became someone who is here to motivate and empower others through my beauty line.

Gracelashhouse is known for creating inspiration to many people regardless of race, gender or age and to empower those who need a little push into believing in themselves and reminding them that they are beautiful.
