Today we’d like to introduce you to Helen & Brian Robinson.
Hi Helen & Brian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our story begins in 2010, when Brian and I were newly married and learning the adventures of blending a family with five boys between the ages of 1 and 12. Like most families, we were always searching for meaningful ways to spend time together, One fall afternoon in 2013, we took our youngest two boys to a pumpkin patch. On the drive home, Brian and I couldn’t stop talking about how much joy we saw on our kids’ faces and what a powerful experience it was to step away from the pace of daily life and simply be together.
Living on family land that had been shared through generations, we saw an opportunity not just for ourselves but for our community — a place where families could make memories, unplug, and enjoy simple traditions. That same night, we sat with Brian’s parents and shared a big dream: turning part of the family farm into a seasonal agritourism destination.
One year later, in September 2014, The Robinson Family Farm officially opened its gates for the first time. We started with just a few attractions, a small pumpkin patch, and a vision that felt much bigger than our resources at the time. But what we lacked in experience, we made up for in passion, hard work, and a deep commitment to creating something special for families like ours.
Over the years The Robinson Family Farm has grown far beyond what we imagined — now hosting thousands of guests each season with attractions ranging from pumpkin patches, axe throwing, zip lines, and mini-golf to holiday events, food trucks, live entertainment, and more. But at the heart of everything, the mission has stayed the same: building a place where families can slow down, laugh together, and create memories that last.
What started as a dream inspired by our own children has become a community tradition we are incredibly grateful for — and we’re proud that our boys have grown up working beside us, learning the value of family, teamwork, and faith along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our journey hasn’t been without hardship — in fact, many of the greatest blessings in our story were born out of seasons of struggle.
In Fall 2019, during what was then our biggest season, our world turned upside down when Brian became gravely ill. What we later learned was Guillain-Barré Syndrome left him paralyzed from the neck down and on a ventilator, spending 103 days in the hospital fighting for his life. When he finally returned home, he was wheelchair bound and unable to move his arms. Just as we began adjusting to this new normal, the world shut down with COVID in 2020 — including physical therapy. With nowhere to turn, the farm became Brian’s therapy. Day by day, step by step, he worked toward movement, strength, and hope. Each small victory felt like a miracle.
That fall, in 2020, we welcomed more than 50,000 guests — our largest season to date. It was a reminder that light always follows darkness, and that community can carry you when you can’t stand on your own.
As we continued to grow, we relocated the farm six miles away in 2022 to support the tremendous increase in visitors. Shortly after reopening, Texas faced a severe drought, and a discarded cigarette sparked a fire that burned over 70 cars in our parking lot. Miraculously, no one was injured — a blessing we will never take for granted.
In Fall 2023, we were faced with yet another challenge when Brian was diagnosed with heart failure at the age of 45. Through strong faith, perseverance, and excellent medical care, the right medication regimen has stabilized and improved his health.
Then in May 2024, just as we prepared for a new season, an EF-1 tornado tore through our property, destroying roughly 60% of the farm. We were less than four months from opening day. But with the help of our incredible team, community, and sheer determination, we rebuilt — and opened on time.
Today, we stand stronger, more grateful, and more grounded in purpose than ever before. Every battle has brought a bigger blessing: deeper relationships, renewed perspective, and a clear understanding that resilience, community, and faith can rebuild anything. Our story is one of perseverance, but it’s also one of gratitude — because what we’ve built isn’t just a business. It’s a legacy of hope.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Before becoming full-time entrepreneurs, both Brian and I built our careers in management roles that shaped the foundation of how we lead and operate today. Brian spent more than a decade in management, giving him extensive experience in leadership, safety, problem-solving, crisis response, and team development. I worked in business management and administrative leadership, overseeing operations, staffing, and customer service—skills that now serve as the backbone of our business and guest experience strategy.
Those professional chapters taught us the importance of communication, planning, teamwork, and treating people with respect—principles that later guided our approach to building and running the farm.
When we opened The Robinson Family Farm in 2014, we transitioned from traditional management roles into full-scale entrepreneurship. With no investors and no roadmap, we built the business from the ground up while continuing to work full-time outside the farm during those early years. Every decision, every structure built, every attraction added—was the result of hard work, resourcefulness, and a determination to create something meaningful for families in our community.
Today, we are both full-time operators of the farm and continue to manage every aspect of growth and operations. Brian leads infrastructure development, construction, property design, and safety management, personally building many of the farm’s attractions and systems. I manage business strategy, staffing and leadership development, marketing, partnerships, guest experience, and vendor relations.
Under our leadership, The Robinson Family Farm has grown from a simple pumpkin patch to a major agritourism destination serving tens of thousands of guests each season, employing a large seasonal team, supporting local vendors and food trucks, and contributing to the economic development and tourism of Central Texas.
Our professional goal has always been the same: build something with purpose, serve others well, and create a legacy that our children and community can be proud of.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Brian’s favorite childhood memories were made right on the land that would later become The Robinson Family Farm. He spent countless hours playing behind his grandparents’ house — swinging from the old rope swing that hung from a huge pecan tree and building rock forts. Those long days of simple outdoor adventure shaped his love for the land and his belief that the best childhood moments don’t require anything fancy — just imagination, dirt, and room to run.
My favorite childhood memory looks a little different, but it shaped me just as deeply. I grew up very poor, and while we didn’t have much, we always had love — and we always found ways to celebrate the small things. For me, Mexican food was my comfort and my joy. On special occasions like my birthday, my grandmother would somehow make my favorite chicken enchiladas. It didn’t matter what we didn’t have — that meal made me feel seen, celebrated, and incredibly grateful. Even now, Mexican food is still my love language, a reminder that joy can be found in small traditions.
