Conversations with Jacqy Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqy Law.

Hi Jacqy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career began in sales and marketing. I worked at a few start-up companies in San Francisco during the first technology boom. Having launched several companies to great success, I moved into marketing for a news company. It was during this time that I discovered my interest in graphic design and photography. Within five years, I was able to teach myself graphic design, and I used my new skills to support my marketing efforts.

Five years later, I became a publisher for Obsessed, a national fashion magazine. That opportunity allowed me to use my graphic design and marketing skills, as well as my start-up experience in a real-world environment. I naturally gravitated towards the design side of running a magazine. That is when I realized that graphic work was where I wanted to focus going forward.

Consequently, I launched a sister company—a design and branding agency under the same moniker as the magazine. From day one, Obsessed Agency was a great success. We sought those clients who wanted a thoughtful and often long-term partnership for their design needs. This philosophy served us well as we worked hard to produce great work, and our satisfied clients kept coming back.

In 2017, I decided to move Obsessed Agency from Washington D.C. to Austin, Texas after falling in love with the city on a weekend trip with friends. That turned out to be a good decision as our business thrived and client demand reached an all-time high.

Then COVID hit…

The pandemic led to the closure of many of the companies with which we worked. In April 2020, our revenue had shrunk by a full 95%, we had lost most of our design team, and I wasn’t sure that we would be able to survive.

It is challenging times like these that force you to be innovative and, if necessary, to reinvent yourself quickly. And that’s exactly what I decided to do.

Once again, I relied upon my start-up expertise, marketing know-how, and graphic design skills and launched another company, Honey Dazed.

What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for? What sets you apart from others?
We create remarkable, unique, and even obscure products that you won’t find anywhere else. We’re all about celebrating the power of individuality and self-expression.

We stand out from other brands because of our quirkiness. But, we’re also known for our exceptional customer service.

Throughout my agency experience, I have always focused on doing extraordinary work for my clients. I’ve kept that same philosophy in serving every Honey Dazed customer.

What are you most proud brand-wise?
Our rapid growth in a challenging economic environment is perhaps one of our most remarkable achievements. It has been nothing short of amazing just how fast we’ve grown both our product offerings and our audience.

We’ve been quite successful at tapping into niche markets. For example, our roller skate products could be characterized as even having a cult following.

There’s no luck when it comes to the success equation. It has always been about consistency from day one. In the early days of Honey Dazed, I focused on market research, which involved a lot of trial and error. The process has required that I be super agile while being open to new strategies—when I think I’ve got it all figured out. It’s been a humbling experience.

What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc?
You can shop for our products at Honeydazed.com or follow us on Instagram @honeydazedofficial. I would also encourage them to check our Instagram for weekly giveaways or to join our mailing list at: shophoneydazed.com/subscribe.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Based in Austin, Texas, Honey Dazed evolved out of my love of art and graphic design in general. We design and sell original, quirky prints, home decor, apparel, and accessories.

When we launched in 2020, we initially only sold downloadable digital prints of our graphic design posters. However, as we grew, we expanded our product line to include stickers, handbags, facemasks, and more.

Any big plans?
In 2021, we plan to launch apparel products as we enter the fashion market. Additionally, we hope to get our products into a few brick-and-mortar stores by bringing some of our products to the wholesale market in Austin.
