Conversations with Jenna Ayers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Ayers.

Jenna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Absolutely. Ayers Photo Co started very simply: with me and a camera, chasing the feeling of capturing moments that felt real and meaningful. I didn’t set out with a grand business plan — it began with photographing friends, small events, and anything that inspired me. Over time, I realized how much I loved the blend of artistry and connection that photography gives you, and that’s really what pushed me to take it more seriously.

As I continued learning, investing in better equipment, and refining my style, the work started growing organically. Clients came through word of mouth first, then through social media, and eventually I reached a point where I knew I wanted to make Ayers Photo Co my full-time focus. Since then, I’ve poured myself into creating an experience that’s personal, intentional, and grounded in storytelling.

Today, Ayers Photo Co is the result of years of practice, a lot of growth, and an even stronger belief in the power of documenting people authentically. It’s been a journey, but every step has shaped the way I work and the kind of art I aim to create.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely hasn’t been perfectly smooth, but I think that’s true for most creative paths. In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges was simply confidence — trusting my eye, believing in my style, and feeling comfortable charging for my work. Photography is such a personal craft, so learning to stand behind my creativity took time.

Another struggle was balancing everything on my own. When you’re building a business, you’re not just the photographer — you’re the marketer, the editor, the accountant, the scheduler, all of it. Figuring out systems that worked for me, managing time, and avoiding burnout was a real learning curve.

There were also seasons of slow bookings, where I questioned whether I was moving in the right direction. But honestly, those moments pushed me to grow the most. I took courses, refined my client experience, adjusted my branding, and leaned into the type of work that really lit me up.

Overall, the challenges have shaped Ayers Photo Co. They taught me resilience, clarity, and the importance of staying connected to why I started in the first place.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I focus on creating images that feel genuine, emotive, and rooted in real connection. I specialize in couples, weddings, and lifestyle portraiture, and my work is known for its true-to-color style, candid approach, and the way it captures people in a natural, unforced way. I’m drawn to the small in-between moments — the laughs, the quiet gestures, the realness — and that’s what I aim to highlight in every session.

What I’m most proud of is the experience I provide my clients. I put a lot of intention into helping people feel comfortable, seen, and relaxed in front of the camera. That’s a huge part of what sets me apart. It’s never just about showing up and taking photos; it’s about building trust, creating a calm environment, and telling someone’s story in a way that feels true to them.

I also put great care into the editing process, making sure each gallery feels cohesive, timeless, and emotionally resonant. Clients often tell me they love that their photos feel real — not overly posed or overly edited — and that’s exactly the balance I strive for.

At the end of the day, I’m proud that Ayers Photo Co has become a space where people feel like they can show up as themselves and have their memories documented with authenticity and intention.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was definitely the overly friendly, talk-to-anyone type. I’ve always loved connecting with people, which makes a lot of sense looking back at the work I do now. I was also pretty ambitious from a young age — the kind of person who couldn’t sit still. I had two jobs in high school, balanced sports and school, and was constantly finding new creative outlets to pour myself into.

I was the kid who always had a camera, a journal, or some random project I was experimenting with. I loved documenting things, even if I didn’t realize at the time that it would eventually become a career path. Looking back, the mix of ambition, people-oriented energy, and creativity really shaped who I am today and how I approach Ayers Photo Co.
