Conversations with Jessie Villanueva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Villanueva

Hi Jessie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well I’ve been practicing lashes and brows for about 4 years now and really decided to dive in around the time the pandemic started (great timing I know) but I just went independent in February 2024. My mom is the one who encouraged me to go to trade school because I’ve always had an interest in the beauty industry and I felt like people really started to invest in themselves after Covid happened because let’s be honest, who wants to wear a full face of make up under a mask? I’ve lashed at a few lash studios since then but really gained a lot of my knowledge and clientele from my most recent place of work. They ended up shutting down so it came down to either finding another employer or giving having my own business a shot and so here I am!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve encountered many challenges along the way. From perfecting my technique, to working long hours, to losing work relationships. The beauty industry can be competitive as well so making sure I’m staying consistent in my services as well as my client experiences is always a grind. This is such a creative industry that you might not be everyone’s cup of tea but the ones to stick with you whilst you grow is so rewarding so it makes all of the hard times worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Lash Extensions but I also offer Lash Lifts, Lash and Brow Tints, Facial Waxing and Brow Lamination. I’d say Lash Extensions; specifically Closed-fan Volume sets is my sweet spot. I get to be creative and really get to customize looks according to my clients eye shape and lifestyle. So many questions and conversing go into my full sets because I don’t like to do the same thing on everyone. Everyone is so different in their preferences and in their natural beauty so getting to accentuate that in my own way is a spectacular feeling. Seeing my clients faces light up and confidence ensue when they look in the mirror after every appointment is the highlight of my job. I’m proud to be apart of them discovering a side of themselves that comes out when they feel beautiful and like they don’t need to touch the mascara or brow pencil in the morning. My clients feel safe and heard in my chair in the sense that they know I’ll always listen to what their vision and goals are as well as their concerns and I think that’s what sets me apart.

What matters most to you?
Consistency. Every time my clients lie down for their lash or brow session I don’t want them to think, “Well this is not as relaxing as last time.” Or “Last time they looked better, what happened this time?” When my clients come in they are ready for either a therapy session or a nice relaxing nap. When they leave, they are leaving with the very look and style that they keep coming back for. It matters to them and it matters to me.
