Conversations with Jing Shi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jing Shi.

Jing, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always known I wanted to help people. Growing up, I was the friend others came to when they needed someone to listen to their stories. I originally studied education, imagining I would help children learn and thrive in school. Over time, though, I realized that what truly moved me was supporting people with the deeper challenges beneath the surface—their healing, their emotional wounds, and their journey through life.

I believe everyone is capable of growth and healing. Sometimes we just need someone who cares, someone willing to walk alongside us. When people find a safe, supportive space, that’s often where true healing begins.

I started Blossom Counseling and Coaching in November 2024 with the intention of providing quality, accessible therapy to anyone in need. My heart is to create a space where people feel safe to explore their trauma, pain, and personal stories—and to discover meaning within them. I want clients to meet therapists who are authentic, compassionate, and genuinely curious about who they are and what they’ve lived through, and who know how to support their healing journey.

At Blossom Counseling and Coaching, clients meet therapists who are warm, gentle, understanding, and collaborative—yet unafraid to challenge them when needed. We work with individuals navigating trauma, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, family-of-origin wounds, anxiety, and depression. We offer services in both English and Mandarin, and our therapists are equipped to support adolescents, young adults, couples, and immigrant families.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I began thinking about starting my own practice, I had been working as a psychotherapist for about seven years. During that time, I continually saw a gap in services for underserved and overlooked communities—especially bilingual clients, immigrant families, and those unable to afford high-quality care. I realized that many existing mental health services were either not accessible, not culturally sensitive, or simply too costly for the people who needed them most.

The idea of creating a safe, culturally attuned space with affordable rates became my mission. I wanted a practice where therapists were equipped, compassionate, and truly prepared to serve these communities.

Building Blossom Counseling and Coaching was not a smooth or easy journey. I was navigating administrative hurdles, balancing a full-time job, and building a business on the side. But through it all, I received incredible support from my clients and my loving family. Seeing my clients’ needs met, watching their therapeutic goals come to life, and witnessing their healing was deeply rewarding. It also taught me how to accept help from my husband since he got to carry the heavier weight of the household at that time.

Healing is powerful—it’s what keeps me going, and it’s what keeps Blossom Counseling and Coaching growing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Blossom Counseling and Coaching, we meet our clients where they are and strive for a truly collaborative therapeutic relationship. Our goal is to create an environment rooted in understanding, empathy, and safety—so our clients can heal, grow, and thrive.

We offer individual, couples, and family counseling, serving clients from age 13 through adulthood. We welcome people from all backgrounds and identities, embracing inclusive care regardless of skin color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or age.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in China in the 90s and 00s, a time when no one really talked about mental health. I carried a lot of confusion about the trauma I experienced, yet had very few places to turn for answers. My mother, who was compassionate and gentle, became the person who helped me peel away the negative labels others placed on me. She offered unconditional love and created a safe space for me to explore who I was and discover my worth in this world.

The unconditional love and acceptance I received from my mother helped me begin to accept myself and grow in confidence. Neurologically, our brains begin to heal from trauma and emotional pain when we experience unconditional positive regard from another person.

At Blossom Counseling and Coaching, we hope our clients leave each session feeling supported in that same way—held with compassion, understood without judgment, and equipped with the tools they need to face what life brings with greater confidence.
