Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Jacobs. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Jordan’s mission in establishing Common Thread Wellness was to bring Eastern medicine to rural Texas in an inviting and approachable way. Traditional Chinese medicine, she believes, is a thoughtful medicine that doesn’t separate our emotions or environment from our physical health. As a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jordan’s primary goal is to provide people with the tools to live a healthy, vibrant, and balanced life. Jordan’s passion for helping others is exemplified in the time she takes with each of her patients to ensure they receive the most effective treatment possible. Her goal is to encourage everyone she treats to take their health and well-being into their own hands through knowledge and awareness of how profound the body’s healing systems can be when given the opportunity. In addition to a solid general practice, Jordan specializes in facial rejuvenation treatments, stress management, anxiety, allergies, pain, chronic fatigue, sleep irregularity, and digestive issues. Jordan holds a Masters of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree from AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, including a one-month internship at the Chengdu University of TCM in Sichuan, China. In addition to practicing acupuncture, she received her Esthetician license in 2004.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With any new experience, there can be some unforeseen hurdles, such as opening an acupuncture and skincare studio a year before the world shuts down. However, there are always silver linings within every challenge; this one allowed her to make deeper connections with her fellow local integrative practitioners. They meet several times as a group to discuss current health concerns for our community and how we could best serve them. To this day, these practitioners are ones she consider mentors, friends, and excellent resources when referrals are needed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Common Thread Wellness is a charming wellness studio located in the Texas Hill Country 40 minutes from downtown Austin. The mission and vision for CTW was to make Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine more inviting and accessible to this community while integrating her 18-plus years in the skincare world with modalities used by Chinese Medicine practices. The therapies offered at CTW are individualized for each person walking in the door. Weather a client is seeking relief from pain, digestive issues, sleep irregularities, hormonal concerns, or skincare challenges, everyone starts with an initial intake to review their health history, lifestyle, and goals. From there, a plan is created that is right for the individual.
With a long history and passion for skincare, cosmetic acupuncture, Microchanneling, and custom facials are a few of the therapies she is most known for in her community. Jordan also loves to tackle pain. Cupping and Gua Sha are two therapies she uses often in conjunction with acupuncture. Her studio has an far infrared sauna for clients to sit in prior to their session to promote detoxification and loosen muscles before starting a session.
Jordan is also an animal lover, her darling and very well-mannered dog, Goldie, will greet anyone coming to the studio. Goldie is famous around here, and if there is a day she is not in the studio due to a play date with another dog, folks tend to be disappointed.
Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely! Jordan is a big fan of podcasts, many of which are wellness and lifestyle related. Things ranging from “Ways to Treat Cancer” by Dr. Antonio Jimenez, “The I Ching” or “Book of Changes” to her current bedside book, “Good Morning, I Love You” by Shauna Shapiro. She was fortunate to hear Shauna speak this year at a wellness conference, her message about mindfulness and self-compassion resonated with Jordan. Several of her go-to podcasts are “Wise Traditions” with Holistic Hilda and “Your Health Reset” with Sinclair Kennally.
