Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules Ramirez.
jules, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a born-and-raised Austinite, originally from East Austin. I’ve had a hobby of collecting and sampling sodas since I was a kid. Throughout my life I saw different brands and flavors come and go and it made me wonder if I would ever see them again or what else is out there that I haven’t seen.
As an adult I learned that the soft drink market is regionalized and there were all sorts of different flavors around the US. After buying drinks, and sometimes even travelling all over the country, the next logical progression was finding out what was available internationally.
That excitement for the hunt or discovery of new flavors and varieties inspired me to start Ice Box Sodas.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been fairly smooth, I’ve found that the more time and effort I apply, the more opportunities arise. Some of the hurdles are finding consistent product as it goes quickly and is shipped from overseas, so sometimes there is a wait for restocks. This year has been great for events and people have loved what we offer.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in bringing exotic beverages and snacks to Austin and are proud to bring people together over their love of snacks. Everything is special-ordered so you’re not likely to find it anywhere else. Ice Box is active in the local community and accessible to all parts of Austin and the Central Texas area, don’t hesitate to contact us for any events or inquiries.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’d like to thank Kicking It, an Austin-based sneaker boutique located in the Domain. They have helped us grow our brand through sponsorship deals and promotion. They also have the best sneaker selection in Austin! Also KAZI 88.7 Austin’s own community-based radio station who has been on the air for more than 40 years now. KAZI has been very supportive in all of our endeavors. Thank you!
