Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Muckle
Hi Justin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
On and off over the past 15-20 years I have worked for painters, done side painting jobs, helped friends that are painting contractors complete their projects, and I worked as a sales rep for close to 5 years with Behr Paint as an in store sales representative.
Towards the end of the 4th year as a Behr sales rep I got to know one of Behr Paints local loyal customers, Will the owner of Willpro. Will is a painting contractor that I became friends with. Will started
Suggesting for me to start my own painting business so once I left Behr Paint I worked as a painter for Will for about 2 months before going to the Williamson County Clerks office to start the process of filing my business name to get my DBA license.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Though it was one of the best choices in my life I was presented with several struggles.
My struggles started with trying to rapidly learn how to navigate social media platforms so that I could start a designated business page on Instagram and Facebook. While navigating these struggles I reached out to Angi Leads/HomeAdvisor and started paying for leads to get my name out there, start building my brand, and gaining trust from the community which lead to misinformation and debt. About 3-6 months later and still needing to make money to pay down the debt incurred, I was told by family and friends about Thumbtack a much smaller lead generation company similar to Angi Leads that allows you to hide your business for a month or more if needed depending on how busy I was. About two years into my business I started getting more clients contacting me and it happening more frequently.
For the first time ever I have projects scheduled at least two months ahead with new client free on site estimates every single day this coming week (February 23, 2025). The next main struggle that I continuously have, but I am close to having it down in most situations is project bidding.
There are so many questions and uncertainty Do I need this project with my busy schedule? Of course I do!! What’s fair? What’s too much? What’s not enough? What to charge if the scope of work changes? Will the client choose me over other bids?
I have now been in business approximately two and a half years and most of my projects if not all are word of mouth, because I have built a strong brand, and a positive reputation for myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Painting Contractor specializing in Interior or Exterior residential repaints and new construction projects, but have also done some commercial repair repaint projects. I also provide small to medium drywall project services, and baseboard demolition and installation. Interior projects I typically brush & roll them and exterior projects I prefer to spray and backroll them as it speeds up the process and there’s far less obstruction compared to my interior projects, but has it’s advantages and disadvantages. I’m most proud of taking a leap of faith even though I was nervous and didn’t have all of the equipment needed to provide a quality and most efficient service for my clients. What sets me apart from other painting contractors is my attention to detail and the pride I have in my work so that I can provide my clients with the best finished product results that I have to offer and to ensure their paint job lasts longer than others so that my clients get the most value out of my work. I also provide my clients with a 3-5 year product failure warranty.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I ran around outside with my siblings and other neighborhood kids, loved playing soccer year round until graduating high school and joining the US Air Force. In the Air Force I was an Air Force police officer.
I always loved being in the outdoors whether it was for hiking, camping, hunting, or fishing, and once I got into high school I grew into this highly social person not afraid to talk to anyone which opened and closed doors in so many different situations, but lead me to where I am today.
