Conversations with Micaela

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micaela.

Hi Micaela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I come from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I arrived with nothing but courage, a dream, and a baby in my arms at just 19 years old. From a very young age, I knew I wanted more—I dreamed of building my own business, something that was truly mine.

Photography was always part of who I was. I was the friend everyone trusted to capture the moment—the laughter, the memories, the photos meant for Instagram, Facebook, or simply to keep forever. I loved taking photos, but I never imagined it could become my career. That changed the day I took my first photography course. In that moment, everything clicked. I knew I had found my purpose.

I started from the very bottom, offering sessions for $25–$50, learning through every client, every challenge, and every small win. Two years later, I stood in a place I once thought was impossible—able to charge up to $3,000 for an event. What truly sets me apart is my heart. My passion and the way I treat my clients like family. My sessions don’t feel staged or robotic; they feel real, warm, and full of life. People don’t feel like they’re in a photoshoot—they feel seen.

At 28 years old, my life has changed in ways I never imagined. What began as survival turned into purpose. What began as a dream became my reality. And this is only the beginning.

Being a Latina in this country is not easy at all .. But if something defines me and defined my destiny to where I am now, it is that I never let anyone tell me that I can’t do something.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. There were many moments where I gave my heart to projects that didn’t turn out as expected, and times when clients still weren’t happy despite my best intentions. I faced canceled projects, broken cameras, and financial uncertainty more times than I can count.

Being a business owner means doing everything yourself—answering calls, managing schedules, editing late into the night, handling social media, and constantly showing up even when you’re exhausted. That reality often shortened my family time, and there were moments when my marriage was truly tested because of the long hours and sacrifices required to build something from the ground up.

But through it all, God has been faithful. My husband has been my greatest support, my pillar, and my biggest fan. When I doubted myself, he believed in me. When things felt overwhelming, he reminded me why I started. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his love, patience, and unwavering support.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and lead photographer of Micaela Fernandez Photography, specializing in weddings, quinceañeras, and family portraits. My work focuses on delivering a high-end, personalized experience while capturing timeless, emotion-driven imagery. From the first inquiry to final delivery, I manage every detail to ensure a seamless and professional process for my clients.

I’m known for my ability to combine strong storytelling with efficiency, consistency, and clear communication. Clients value my organized approach, reliability, and the confidence that their event is being documented with care and intention. I prioritize client experience just as much as image quality, which has allowed me to build long-term relationships and a strong referral-based business.

What I am most proud of is the growth of my business in a short period of time—starting with small sessions and scaling to full-service events. This growth reflects not only my creative skills but also my commitment to professionalism, continuous learning, and delivering consistent results.

What sets me apart is the balance I bring between creativity and structure. I offer a warm, approachable experience while maintaining high standards, clear systems, and accountability. My clients don’t just receive beautiful images—they receive a dependable, elevated service they can trust.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories are always tied to my grandfather’s house. In Argentina, we have a tradition called asado—a long Sunday meal where the entire family gathers to eat, talk, and simply be together. Those Sundays were sacred. My grandfather was the chef, the heart of it all. While my grandmother was never the best cook, my grandfather was truly a master at the grill.

I remember everyone gathered around, enjoying good food, laughter, and each other’s company. There were no worries, no rush—just happiness in its purest form. Those moments are the ones I miss the most, but they are also the ones I carry with me with so much love. They shaped my appreciation for family, connection, and being fully present in the moment.
