Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Loehr.
Hi Nina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Early in my career, I became interested in how systems and decisions shape people’s everyday experiences. I began in the criminal justice field, particularly in adult probation, where I saw firsthand how policies and leadership choices directly impact individuals and communities.
Over time, I was drawn to roles where I could connect strategy to execution and see the impact of that work. This led me to a variety of roles and ultimately to my current position as an Executive Program Manager at CapMetro. In this role, I work closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, policy development, and cross-departmental coordination to support the agency’s long-term goals and the region’s mobility needs.
Alongside my professional work, I became involved in my children’s school, NYOS Charter School. What started as a way to stay engaged as a parent grew into deeper involvement in governance, and I now serve as Board President. I’ve also had the opportunity to further deepen my involvement through Leadership Austin, connecting with other leaders across the region.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to contribute to organizations that play an important role in people’s daily lives. Whether in criminal justice, transportation, or education, I’ve found the most fulfillment in helping build systems that work well for the people they serve.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Working in public service, I’ve encountered many challenges along the way. Much of my work has involved navigating complex environments where decisions have real impacts on people. That requires balancing priorities and evolving expectations.
One of the ongoing challenges has been building alignment across different perspectives. In both my professional role and as a board president, part of my responsibility is helping bring clarity and direction while ensuring people feel heard. That can be challenging, but it’s also where I’ve grown the most.
Over time, I’ve learned the importance of staying grounded, asking questions, and approaching challenges with a long-term perspective.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At CapMetro, I focus on helping teams align around shared priorities and move complex projects forward effectively. Much of that work involves bringing structure and clarity across departments, where success depends on both strong relationships and attention to detail.
I’m most proud of the opportunity to contribute to organizations that have a direct impact on the community. Whether supporting large-scale initiatives at CapMetro or serving as Board President at NYOS Charter School, I’ve been able to help guide work that affects people’s day-to-day lives.
Outside of my professional roles, I’m involved in Toastmasters International and also mentor a women’s Toastmasters group, which has been a meaningful way to support others in building confidence and communication skills.
In environments where priorities compete and the path forward isn’t always clear, I tend to have the greatest impact by helping teams move from discussion to action.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is seeing things come together in a way that has a real impact on others. I enjoy being part of efforts where there are a lot of moving pieces, and then reaching a point where everything starts to align and move forward, that’s something I find very rewarding.
I also value time with my family. Those moments help me reset, keep things in perspective, and remind me what’s most important.
