Hi Ramsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
U7 Austin DJ began in 2016 throwing club events in Downtown Austin. We quickly realized that we had something special to give our local community here in Central Texas and decided to expand beyond the clubland of Downtown Austin and into the magical world of private events. As the years went by, our clients began to recommend U7 Austin DJ for weddings. So, we began to embrace the Austin wedding industry with open arms.
Coming from a background in Club Events, Festivals and Raves, we noticed there was something missing within the Austin Wedding DJ scene, skilled DJ’s that went beyond top 40 hits and integrated their own flavor of mixing to create an experience that is one of a kind. Just like our brides and grooms, we want each wedding to be authentic to the energy of each couple. Creating memories at a couples milestone day is something we take honor in doing.
We have built our five star reputation on keeping it weird and doing things the U7 way. Which sometimes means breaking conventions or out dated traditions and creating new ones, This is a risk we are always willing to take. Thus, after the first two years in the wedding industry, the proof was there, there’s a hunger for wedding DJ’s that push the boundaries of the Austin Wedding DJ status quo.
U7 Austin DJ was designed to create community on and off the dance floor and that’s why we do what we love and love what we do. Let’s face it, Austinites love great food, awesome dance music, and they absolutely love to get down on the dance floor! I’d go as far to say that it’s ingrained into our night culture and is why this city continues to attract dancers from around the world. In the end, that is the reason we are still going strong and U7 Austin DJ is so grateful to call Austin it’s home!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
That’s a loaded question! Yes and No.
U7 Austin DJ’s success in the wedding industry was built from hard work, passion and resilience. I can say from personal experience, all businesses that brave the storm of adversity will learn from their failures, and will become stronger over time. That being said, U7 Austin DJ’s journey has been both magic and tragic. Whether it’s a pandemic or cyber attacks, we’ve survived through some crazy times! The real secret to success in the Austin Wedding Industry (or any industry for that matter) is by building a team that can overcome the challenges that come with running a business.
Looking back at all the pitfalls we’ve encountered, the one that hurt the most was the cyber attacks. In my opinion, it’s really not about “if you’ll get attacked but when you’ll get attacked”. One of the cyber attacks we encountered was an attack to our Google Business Profile. These Google Techs were told that we didn’t exist and they ended up stealing 103 5-star reviews from us, plus our first page ranking. And even after we proved that we are a legit business, we never got those reviews back and had to reach out to all of our past clients to leave us yet another review. Luckily, a good amount of our past clients gladly returned the favor and we were able to regain half of our Google Profile Reviews. Sadly though, Googles lack of accountability for rogue employees, is and can be a devastating blow to small business owners that haven’t established a security protocol.
In the end, we’ve learned some valuable lessons and we are still here and will continue to adapt as U7 Austin DJ grows!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
U7 Austin DJ is a production company that specializes in Mobile DJ’ing for Weddings, Corporate Events, Boat Parties, Fundraisers and Private Events. We also offer event rentals for: Lighting, Photo Booths, Monograms, Drapery, Dancing on a Cloud, Cold Spark Machines, Dance Floor Lighting, CO2 Guns and PA Systems.

There’s a lot of qualities that we’re proud of but I feel that we take the greatest pride in providing awesome customer service. Because let’s face it, at some point in our lives, we’ve all experienced horrible customer service and it almost always leaves you exhausted and feeling like you’re just another number. Knowing this, we make sure that our clients are taken care of from start to finish!
What set’s us apart from other Mobile DJ companies, is our professional experience from DJ’ing Raves, Transformational Festivals, and Underground Clubs. I say this because a large percentage of Mobile DJ companies only have experience in Top 40 environments. Don’t get me wrong, there are some amazing Open Format DJ’s working this circuit but when you integrate experience from dance floors beyond the main stream clubs and bars of any city USA, you can truly take your dancers on a unique journey they’ll never forget!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
If you’ve had you finger on the pulse of technical innovations in the music industry, you’ll be able to see that AI stands to change the way DJ’s perform and run their businesses. In my opinion, I feel there’s a place for AI in our market but at the same time, I also feel DJ’s shouldn’t rely on this technology to hone their skills in the DJ booth. Reason being is, dancers from around the world want a real connection with their DJ and not a presence cooked up by an algorithm. Basically put, music is a personal journey and AI can’t replace the human connection you have while DJ’ing in a live environment. On the flip side, AI is great for organizing music crates, marketing material and even videos for visuals. Aside from AI, DJ’s have also began to integrate their own music production into the fold of their career. This move alone helps create a unique brand that when combined with the technological advancements, will help them thrive as an entertainer. Either way, navigating this new path will come with it’s challenges but ultimately it will be yet another leg up for performers around the world!
When it comes to trends in the music scene here in the States, I’ve been noticing that this country is embracing Electronic Music into their lives more and more. For example, music genres like: House, Techno, Bass Music, Trance, Breaks and beyond. For me, this is a positive because Electronic music is what’s fueled my passion for DJ’ing for nearly 25 years and now that it’s becoming a staple in this country, it allows Mobile DJ’s to expand their music careers beyond raves, clubs and festivals and into more mainstream environments like the Wedding DJ Industry.
In the end, the Global Music Industry is consistently evolving whether it’s through technology or new ideas and if you want to have a successful career as an entertainer, adaptation is the key!
