Conversations with Raven “Rayee” Nance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven “Rayee” Nance

Hi Raven, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Raven, I am a 35 year old Texas Native and mother of one to my 13 year old SonShine! Ever since I was a child I always knew that whatever I did in life, I wanted to help people and make them feel good about themselves. When I was in my twenties I took a step into the medical field working in hospice care/home health and eventually made my way into OBGYN care. I loved taking care of the elderly and making the end of their life journey an enjoyable experience, as well as assisting with bringing new life into the world. After losing my Mimi to cancer in 2016, I decided that caring for people not only brought me happiness but on many occasions broke my heart. I so badly wanted to help people and bring them joy without having to lose them in the process. Fast forward to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic swept our nation forcing me to leave my job to assist my child with distance learning. In February of 2021, I took a leap of faith and decided to enroll at Ann Webb Skin Institute to fulfill yet another dream helping people feel beautiful and confident in their own skin. From the first day of class I was telling my instructors.”We will be coworkers one day!” I graduated in November 2021 as a three-time Top Gpa student. From there my esthetics journey fook off FAST! I was hired that December as a receptionist at AW Skin Clinic and shortly after became an esthetician at the clinic. In July 2022 I transitioned from an esthetician to a Lead Instructor/Student clinic manager. I absolutely love being an instructor and having the opportunity to prepare our students for the real world and teach them valuable life lessons along the way! I am extremely grateful for the opportunities that were provided to me. My hard work, experience as a student, employee and Instructor has landed me many titles including Master Esthetician, Lead Instructor, Body Contouring Specialist,Professional Laser Technician, and Laser Safety Officer! My dedication to continue to learn afforded me the opportunity to be able to open my very own mini spa in January of 2024 called “Embodied By Rayee”! If you’re ever in the Austin/Round Rock area make sure to book an appointment to get “Embodied By Rayee”. 🩷

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Balancing life as a single mother, business owner, and esthetician is exhausting and overwhelming. I constantly feel pulled in so many directions—trying to be a good mom, manage my business, and build my career. Financial stress is always looming, as I juggle work and caring for my child. It feels like there’s never enough time or energy for myself.

I often feel underappreciated, like my efforts go unnoticed, whether it’s at home, in my business, or at work. It’s tough to feel like I’m giving so much and not getting anything back. But despite the constant challenges, I fight for my dreams every day. I know it’s all worth it in the end. The struggle is real, but I’m determined to create a better future for myself and my child, even when it feels like the odds are stacked against me.

My favorite quote is “A Queen will always turn pain into POWER” and I stand by that WHOLEHEARTEDLY!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I head into my fourth year as a master esthetician, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. Specializing in laser hair removal, dermaplaning, waxing, sugaring, skincare services, brow treatments and body contouring. My passion for this work runs deep, and what sets me apart is that I truly care about my clients and their needs more than just making money. It’s about building trust and helping people feel confident in their own skin, which is what drives me every day.

In addition to my work as an esthetician, I absolutely love being an esthetic instructor. Teaching esthetics and mentoring young women is a role I hold close to my heart. I’m passionate about guiding them through life’s challenges, both in their careers and beyond. Helping them grow, build their skills, and navigate tough obstacles is incredibly fulfilling. It’s all about empowering them to believe in themselves and take charge of their futures, just as I’ve had to do.

What are your plans for the future?
Working at both an esthetic school and a med spa has sparked a new passion in me—it’s made me realize I want to take my career even further. I’ve been inspired to go back to school to become a nurse and pursue a path as a medical aesthetician or aesthetic nurse. The idea of combining my love for esthetics with advanced medical knowledge is exciting, and I’m eager to expand my skill set to offer even more services to my clients.

But my dreams don’t stop there. I’m envisioning a future where my Esty Besties and I open a beauty megaplex, a one-stop destination for all things beauty and wellness. I want to create a space that’s not just about looking good but feeling empowered and confident. With my experience and the amazing people I’ve met along the way, I know this dream is within reach, and I’m ready to put in the work to make it happen.
