Today we’d like to introduce you to Robby Boyd.
Hi Robby, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for reptiles. Ten years later, doing photography and videography in Austin, I wanted to start my own reptile breeding company. I founded the company in 2020 and as we all know that was a really tough year especially for startups, however, the benefits to doing something like this in today’s age is I’m able to do 99% of my business online through the sales on my website or through other reptile sales sites and forums. I had originally started much broader hence the name Robby’s Reptiles but now I solely focus on the species known as crested geckos. I love working with them because of the insane variety and vibrant colors they all have to offer and then it allows a lot of room for specialization and my Cinematography allows me to stand out from the crowd.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a relatively smooth process, but I went into this endeavor knowing I needed to be willing to risk it all in order to succeed. Investing well over 100% of my income back into the company year round.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Crested Gecko Breeder. Robby’s reptiles is proudly veteran owned and operated. I would say I am known for having the best artistic abilities in the hobby, with my filming and photography being in a class of their own in this niche hobby. I had been a freelance cinematographer for five years prior to starting this company and luckily, that spilled over into this career beautifully.
I try to create THE most breathtaking living works of art. Whether that be through the structure, color, pattern, or hardiness of my creations.
I strive to be Americas Best Crested Gecko breeder.
Tracking my lineage on all geckos I’ve created, documenting each and every geckos unique appearance and development. There’s nothing more rewarding than creating these living works of art.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I remember having my first ever Tortoise, and I thought to myself how this is like a real life Pokémon, and with a tortoise being my lifelong companion. I loved interacting with him, learning his personality and seeing him observe the environments around him were some of my fondest memories.
