Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Cobb.
Sherri, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since very early in my life, I ran at a high & creative tempo. There are three distinct traits that best describe me in an elevator pitch: driven, determined and naturally curious. Pepper those traits with an unwavering attitude in strength, perseverance, hope and a deep interest in color science and you have the basic map of my life purpose to be a working fine artist & painter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth… but that is why I am an ARTIST! Life, Death Re-birth.. the whole idea is to search for Nirvana from within… to share that space with the world. To take the viewer beyond all the struggle into a world that chooses to use struggle as a paving stone for hope, A place where the passion is unleashed. Every difficult decision I have made has ultimately always produced a beautiful outcome. After all, struggle in the universe is what got us all here.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I use my body to create bold and dynamic action-oriented paintings that emphasize strength and the impermanence of life. The paintings I make are a direct response to the experiences found in nature and beyond and my themes center on nature, symbology, mythology and romanticism.
My paintings have a signature tipping point system in place and often times the crescendos are celebrated by politicizing traditional expressive gestures and radicalizing the empty space as anti-gesture together at once. Broad monumental sweeping color field stains cover the raw canvas’. What is left in the wake is a multiplex of physical gestures, color field stains and a new space for the viewer to re-imagine the world.
My process is my power bar. My physical body is my alter canvas and like my artwork, my physical form is the outward manifestation of stored power expressed by tone, line and curve. Whether I am boxing, painting, body surfing or dancing through the days, My physicality is grounded into the fabric of my spirit. Yet it is that very spirit that we humans share in the journey of life.
What does success mean to you?
Surrounding myself with positive impact minded people. Individuals that have defined their joyful purpose… It’s getting on the wavelength with others that share your drive and sense of purpose. All the ingredients needed for success are understanding that time is a rich commodity aka your controllable equity… in that, how you spend it, where you spend it and with who will help to define your success, all of which have nothing necessarily to directly do with money. Rather, it has more to do with fulfillment, legacy and peace.
