Today we’d like to introduce you to Torin Williams A.K.A Tha Dark $aiyan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally from the midwest, I moved to the south in grade school. Most of my family and my friends and nostalgic memories live in Detroit / St. Louis so that’s what I call home. You can say I’m someone who knows the best of both worlds to say the least. I had to adapt on a regular basis to survive & thrive. The majority of my influences come from Detroit (Motown) so Music became a huge part of my life. I fell in love with jazz, soul, hip-hop and even techno. Every chance I had, I signed myself up for classes and clubs to participate in to expand my musical knowledge. I learned how to read music & play the saxophone in band when I was in school. In high school I DJ’d almost everywhere whether it was church, a wedding, a party, or an actual venue. Funny story when I was a freshman. I actually got into some trouble & was sent to an alternative school but THIS is where I wrote my first song, with no beat with a poetry-style approach. When I actually finished this poem, I started to realize that it had a real rhythm to it so my creative mind led me to try to wrap these lyrics over other songs that I liked at the time. I came across TEN CRACK COMMANDMENTS by B.I.G & my lyrics fit perfectly over the instrumental. This sparked the passion of songwriting and recording. So pretty much throughout high school, I was trying to find my way, create my own sound. Since I really didn’t have the equipment, I found ways to sneak and record at school using the school’s mics & laptops. Mind you, I kept my music a secret people only knew me as a DJ but I think one day I was playing a song that I was working on and out of all people, my teacher was listening to every single word silently watching me work for about 15 solid minutes. When I actually realized that she was in the room, I assumed that I was in trouble but she in fact told me that it was very good and that I should definitely take it serious because not many people have musical gifts like I do so that really pushed me to actually upload a song and actually show people what I was working on. & the rest was history. I was gradually growing through streams & connections and relationships with people internationally involved in the music scene. At SXSW, I met a lot of artists (Lil Peep, XXXTENTACION, UnotheActivist, Pouya, Bones, Xavier Wild, RONNY J, etc.) Who I looked up to tremendously at the time and fueled me even more to take my craft serious. But dilemmas started to occur.
Fast forward a lot of bullshit and poor decision making… I was actually raided by police twice & had to sit in jail for a year before I could even see the judge & sign a deal. So during that year, I was away, I did some real self-reflection, I quadruple thought about my life and what I wanted out of it and what steps that need to be taken. But the immaculate plan that I had crumbled because COVID-19 hit the scene the moment I was a freeman and that was another battle I was not ready for BUT I’m a SURVIVOR & I’ve established my brand “EUPHORICAL FUTURE“ officially in 2021 and have been growing it to be Austins next multimedia GIANT & tried my best to stay focused and HEALTHY.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s mentally, physically emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically challenging. There’s internal doubts and discouragement and social resistance or lack of support that makes you lose faith. Let alone COVID-19 heading in the middle of what I thought was the peak in my career.
The real question is do you REALLY want it? Because any wise person knows, nothing that is truly beautiful in this world is easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Creator/CEO of Euphorical Future. I am a multi-media designer and musical artist. I read & write music, I play all saxophones but Tenor. I play keyboard and drums by ear. I’m a producer, songwriter, engineer & vocalist/lyricist. I do digital art and I love photography. I am most proud of my musical composition “as eye walk the path” and I feel that I am drastically different from others because I approach my music in a different limelight and focus more on the energy of a song more than the lyrics or the beat alone.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My close friends who I call my brothers and my immediate family, hey helped when no one would help. They was real when everyone was fake and without them, I simply would not be here ALIVE & BREATHING.
