Today we’d like to introduce you to Weston Saverance.
Hi, Weston; thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
In middle school, I purchased a $100 acoustic guitar from Target. I had a guitar previously given to me by my grandparents when I was much younger. Still, it was ultimately destined to sit and dust in my closet shortly after my attention span had allowed its presence to be voided from my mind. There was something about this Target guitar, though, the fact that I had bought it with my own money or the sweeter, more gentle tones it could sing. Whatever it was, it initiated my love for creating music. In my hometown, adolescent boys play football and other sports. I was jealous of the passion my classmates and friends had found for the game. I was incapable of sharing that experience with them because of some physical limitations due to a congenital heart defect I was born with. However, my new Target guitar had brought me my passion. Something of my own that not only could I fall in love with but create with.
After fumbling through self-taught guitar lessons, I became a musician. I honed in on my skills and began to sing and play in both public settings and in my bedroom until I graduated high school. It was in wasn’t college that I started taking it more seriously (at least slightly). I figured other people might enjoy what I am creating as much or even more than I do, and it is a disservice to harbor it to myself. Since May 2022, I have written, co-produced, and released ten original songs, including WESTON. I have been playing shows around the Austin area since my first release and enjoying every moment and memory. I am so grateful for where I am and that I get to share my own emotions through songs that positively impact people’s lives. I will forever be grateful to Target and their horrible (yet functional) guitars for getting me to where I am now.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an independent musician comes with a large amount of challenges. I often need help finding adequate time to dedicate to my artistry while supporting myself financially. Being an indie artist means I am my manager and booking agent. I need help finding shows to play and to create content to support my music on social media. Nonetheless, I enjoy what I do, and hearing positive feedback from my fans makes it completely worth the hard work and dedication.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I co-produce and distribute my original music. My music is inspired by my own life experiences and the emotions I encounter throughout my everyday life. I also play shows around Austin, Texas, with my band at local dive bars and music venues. Many friends and fans around Texas come to my shows to experience a fun live music show. My artistry has become a significant part of my life and significantly impacted the lives of others. I plan to continue creating music and meeting amazing new people throughout my career.
Before we go, can you talk to us about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
I am always open to collaboration and support. People can support me by listening to and sharing my music with friends or attending a live show. I am also always looking to book shows, so if other bands want to play a show alongside my band or patrons wish to book us for a private event or local venue, they can contact me via email at Westonsaverance11@gmail.com.
