Daily Inspiration: Meet Alex Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Washington.

Hi Alex, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey as a talent manager started in 2020 during the pandemic. I decided to pivot from hospitality management to music and entertainment when I realized I was unhappy at my job. Music and art was always something I had a passion for but I never really knew how to express it. Also, I’d always been a natural-born leader and loved business, so I decided to combine the two. I decided to send a cold email to a local Dallas artist by the name of Jahn Dough. I actually don’t even recall him having an email to contact at the time – It was a cold Instagram DM. I knew he was an emerging talent and I’d been a fan of his for a couple of years. I told him I was looking to get some experience in music management and I wanted to see what I could bring to the table. From there I was able to build my network in the industry and learn the music business firsthand. Ever since then I’ve been able to work with different artists and brands and I am continuing to build my career as a Creative Talent Manager.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I like to find the beauty in the challenges I face in life. Nothing about this journey has been smooth. It’s actually one of the toughest chapters in my life so far. I’m just realizing that the obstacles are temporary and the marathon continues as Nip would say. One of the most challenging parts was pivoting into an industry I knew nothing about. I had to learn so much new information and build a whole new network of relationships. It’s also hard to prove my worth based off of passion you know? I’ve been shown time and time again that this is the path I’m meant to be on. I just continue to grow my skillsets and gain more accomplishments.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am in the process of building a creative management agency. I’ve learned that artists desire someone (or something ) to relate to. They often need unique mediums to express themselves or relay a message that can often times get lost in translation. This agency will provide that medium. Where creativity meets reality. I am also redefining what it means to be an artist. I plan to work with a wide range of art forms, not just music.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think a lot of people might not know that I’m an extreme introvert. Which is super ironic because a huge part of my job is meeting new people and building relationships. I love socializing but most times, it’s not for long and I usually need a lot of time to recharge my social battery.
