Daily Inspiration: Meet Alicia Beller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Beller.

Hi Alicia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Omaha, NE, but have lived in Austin for 25 years. I have always been a creative person, but I didn’t really think about doing makeup as a career. After graduating college, I worked for a cosmetic company and I fell in love with doing makeup. After working for several cosmetic brands as a freelance artist, I slowly started meeting new clients and began building my own business. I have been a professional makeup artist for more than 25 years now and I still love it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
One challenge I have faced is growing my business organically. I don’t do any advertising, so all my business has been word of mouth referrals and self-promotion via social media. Although it took longer, I don’t regret it because I have gained such great clients this way. I would say the biggest challenge I have faced so far was when I couldn’t do my job during the pandemic. I tried to stay busy at home to keep my mind off of not being able to do what I loved. I was so happy when things started opening back up and I was able to get back to making people feel like their best selves.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do makeup for weddings, magazines, photoshoots, corporate executives and many private clients, etc. I also do private lessons for clients wanting one-on-one instruction on how to do their own makeup. I am an on location artist meaning I travel to the client, as I don’t have a brick and mortar business. My clients love the convenience of me coming to them. I have been able to travel for my job, but I am still waiting for an overseas destination wedding! I always say I am one of the lucky ones because I love what I do for a living!

I would say the thing that sets me apart from others is I ask many questions and truly listen to my client so I can accomplish what they want, but I also give my advice to achieve the best look for each person. My style leans toward clean, timeless makeup, but I can do whatever style my client desires. It is very important to me that they love the way they look when I am done.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I would say my mom also deserves credit for my success because she has always encouraged me and pushed me to do my best. I admire my mom so much because she worked so hard her entire life for what she wanted even when it wasn’t easy. She is a shining example of strength and perseverance to me.
