Daily Inspiration: Meet Amir Lancaster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Lancaster.

Amir, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Native to Arlington, Texas. I moved to San Marcos, Texas to study at Texas State University and receive a bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science. During my four years, I was a part of various clubs, organizations and was even brought on to the Women’s NCAA Volleyball team as a male practice player. Upon receiving my degree, I pursued a career in Sales covering Central, South, and East Texas. I knew I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others and my passion for sales quickly pushed me into the world of real estate, model, and acting. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people and sharing a smile with as many people as possible. One day a friend and local Austin photographer by the name of Kaylee Griffin asked if we could spend an afternoon exploring downtown and taking pictures. I was quick to accept the chance to put together a stylish outfit and have an excuse for a fresh haircut. After seeing the results of the pictures she captured, we both agreed that my smile was something that needed to be shared. She connected me to a Facebook group here in Austin, Texas called “Austin Area Photographers and Models” where I worked with local photographers to build my portfolio.

My career as a model really took flight when I decided to seek representation from the “Lari Nelson Fashion Group” in San Antonio, Texas. After signing with the agency they began the process of preparing me for the “Model and Talent Expo” hosted by Mike Beaty in Dallas, Texas. In two short months, I learned how to recite a monologue, perform a two-person scene, and do a cold read thanks to the help of Jazmen – Blue Gutierrrez at “Acting Studios 101”. During the talent expo, I was selected to walk in the fashion show and received an award for my two-person scene in the Men’s division. The recognition I received snowballed into me signing with “The Cutts Agency” in Dallas, Texas, “Inclusion Management” in Los Angeles, and “Slamm Management” in Atlanta, Georgia.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road that has led me here has not been as smooth for me as some would think. The amount of hours and resources I have expended just to make it to where I am today has been a learning lesson of its own. I am the first of my family to pursue the entertainment industry and while they’ve supported me along the way, I haven’t received too much professional mentorship. My industry education as well as skills learned were taught by fellow peers onset and by listening more than I spoke.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in commercial print and well as commercial acting. What I am most known for is my warm and approachable smile. What sets me apart from other models and talent in my industry would be my unique mix. I’m half African American and half Lebanese which makes many of my physical features very unique.

Any big plans?
My future plans are to study at the “Carol Hickey Acting Studio” while building a real estate career here in Austin, Texas.
