Daily Inspiration: Meet Anastasia Deasy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Deasy.

Hi Anastasia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been creating art since I was a child, and I always knew my future career would involve art in some way. After graduating from college, I worked for a historic building restoration company, but I found the work wasn’t as creatively fulfilling as I hoped.

In the evenings, after work, I began learning to tattoo, and over time it grew into my full-time profession. I first worked in a traditional street shop, but I had a different vision – a contemporary studio with a calm, relaxing atmosphere and a safe, welcoming environment for everyone who walks in.

In the fall of 2024, I fulfilled that vision by opening It’s Just Permanent Studio in East Austin. My goal was to create a space that feels comfortable for both artists and clients, while also serving as a desirable destination for traveling tattoo artists from other cities and countries.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey was not easy from the start. As a woman in the tattoo industry, I often faced doubts about my abilities and wasn’t always taken seriously. When meeting clients in the waiting area, many assumed I was part of the front desk staff and that the artist would be someone else.
I encountered similar challenges while searching for a location for the studio. On multiple occasions, I was told that a tattoo shop was not welcome in certain buildings due to concerns about attracting the “wrong” crowd or generating noise complaints.

These experiences only strengthened my determination to bring my vision to life and challenge the stereotypes surrounding tattooing and who belongs in the industry.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our tattoo studio offers a wide range of styles to suit different tastes and ideas. Each artist brings their own unique style and perspective, frequent visits from guest artists from around the world further expand the creative variety we offer. You don’t have to travel to New York or Los Angeles to be tattooed by well-known artists—you can meet them right here at our studio.

I personally specialize in fine-line, black & grey, floral tattoos. My designs are delicate, intentional, and created to flow naturally with the body.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating a studio culture rooted in respect, creativity, and inclusivity, while keeping the work thoughtful and deeply personal. I want artists to feel supported and inspired in their work, and clients to feel genuinely cared for, heard, and confident throughout the entire experience. For me, tattooing is about crafting meaningful art in a space where everyone feels welcome and valued.
