Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Williams.
Hi Angel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I always loved the arts and animals. Those were my two favorite things. The animal craze pretty much overpowered the arts though, as I entered into my middle school and beginning high school years, I just knew I was going to be a Veterinarian! That quickly changed when I realized my love for photography in 2017. I started taking photography classes at my local career center in my junior year and it changed my life, not to be dramatic, but it really did. I started to see the world in a different light, both figuratively and literally, and it changed the way I viewed individuals as well. I tried almost all genres of photography, from sports and events to fashion and beauty. I was drawn to portrait photography the most, specifically fashion and beauty, due to the fact I get to meet such amazing people, see new places and express my artistic abilities. Capturing someone through my lens provided me with an interesting way of getting to know someone’s authentic self in the most vulnerable way. With fashion in the mix, it just opened up a whole new world of possibilities. I love the power of articles of clothing and how it can transform your persona and let you tap into another part of yourself! I love what I do, but there have been many times where I thought I wasn’t good enough, compared myself to others, or thought it was too challenging and I wanted to give up. I had to keep fighting for my passion because I believe I have an eye for greatness. I am in a great place right now and excited for what 2021 will bless me with.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road, but I also believe nothing worth having ever Is. First starting out in photography, I tried it all because I had to find what I loved to do, which was challenging and time-consuming In itself. Learning the business aspects on my own was difficult, and I made some mistakes along the way. I had to change my level of thinking and communication to better excel in my craft. Things for sure weren’t always easy, and I know there will still be days that are challenging, but it is all apart of the journey.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fashion, beauty and commercial photographer. My clients consist of business owners and brands, models, fashion companies, etc. I can say that I know for my work being “magazine quality.” Or if people tell me that and I appreciate that so much because I aspire to have my work in the biggest magazines in the world one day. I am most proud of the work that challenges me to think outside the box and quick on my feet. I believe what sets me apart from others is the experience I bring to my clients, the quality of my photos have, and my desire to want to be the best I can and produce my best work.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for people just starting out on their photography journey would be to practice practice practice as much as you can. Study the greats, read articles, watch YouTube videos, and overall just become knowledgeable in what type of field you want to go in. Have clear and realistic expectations. Have fun with it. If you’re not passionate about it, then it may not be for you. You will need to work hard though. There’s no doubt about that. And keep in mind this career field will drain your pockets if you let it LOL so be wise and be resourceful!
