Today we’d like to introduce you to B.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my photography journey over 10 years ago taking photos of bees for a honey startup I was working for- I had no background and had no idea what I was doing. Since picking up the camera for the first time, I’ve grown my portfolio from bees, to working with large brands and working in motorsports ( formula one, NASCAR, MotoGP) as well as taking photos of pretty things, like women and cars.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m thankful that I’ve always had the mentality of “yeah I can do that”. This has let me take gigs that pushed me to grow professionally. So yes it’s been a smooth road only because I’ve always been confident in my capabilities and so far it’s worked out really well. I think what makes someone success in photography is having an eye – you can teach someone about equipment but what sets a real photographer from a person with a camera is having an eye for beauty. And that is how you get return clients and a reputation and respect and sets you apart from the thousands of other photographers
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I always say I take photos of pretty things! But right now my bread and butter, is pretty women and pretty cars. Together and or separately. I also shoot the Motorsport races at the COTA track as well, and I work with some brands.
I’m really proud of how diverse my portfolio is- I think many people are great in a niche area- and I feel like I’m pretty good in a lot of different areas.
What sets me apart is what I said before – the difference between a photographer and a person with the camera is their eye – and even on a bad day I feel confident that I can capture a photo, an angle, or a concept that not a lot of other people would see.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The mentor I’ve had @sebby_raw!! I reached out to on social and asked to assist on a shoot- that is the best way to learn I swear! Also I think people need to get comfortable with shooting for free or at a super low rate esp if they are novice or haven’t shot something before- when I was getting into cars I would go to car shows and shoot them and then ask the owners if I could shoot their cars for free – and now I get paid!
