Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Almodovar.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a Realtor in Austin, Texas. I have been in real estate since 2019, when I bought my first home in North Austin. Although I started in the technology consulting field as a project manager, I would eventually find my way to my dream job.
My story started when I was one year out of college and frustrated with how expensive renting an apartment was. We’ve all been there when our lease is about to expire and our landlord raises the rent. I wondered if I could purchase a property with how much I was paying in rent. I did some research and voila, it was totally true! I was only 23 when I closed on my condo.
Fast forward to 2021 and I had been working in my tech job for over three years. The world was in the middle of a pandemic, and I was quickly burning out. I was looking for another way to build a stream of income so I could eventually leave my job when I landed on real estate investing. I had a friend who had been successful at flipping homes and converting them into rentals. This particular method is called the BRRRR model (Buy, Rehab, Rent, Refinance, Repeat). I thought “Hey, I could probably do that too,” so I dove in. After a lot of coaching, I bought my second property in Waco, Texas. I flipped it in three months and had a tenant move in shortly after.
After my investment property had finished, I was completely burned out from my corporate job. I needed a break, so I took a leap of faith and put in my 2 weeks. I had no idea what my next career move was. After about a week of unemployment, it hit me! Real estate! The career I had been looking for had been staring me in the face for years and I didn’t even know it. From that moment, I knew I was going to be a Realtor.
This brings us to today. I am currently living out my dream job as a real estate agent and have loved getting to help people! Whether it’s buying or selling, I enjoy working with my clients and ensuring the process is as enjoyable as possible.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest obstacle I faced in starting my real estate career was fear. I remember being terrified to leave the first professional job I had after college. I had worked in my consulting job for over three years. I was making really good money, the benefits were awesome, I had a lot of time off, and I loved the people I worked with. Not to mention, I was good at it. I had been promoted twice in the 3.5 years and had been given four pay raises. So why would I ever want to leave a job like that? It’s simple, I knew it wasn’t where I was meant to be. I always felt like I had a different purpose in life. Every day that I wasn’t working towards that purpose ate me up inside. In life, usually there isn’t a huge sign that it’s time to make the next move. I had been waiting and praying for that sign for so long. If I’m being truthful, I was scared to make a decision and leave the comfort I lived in.
In January of 2022, I was coming towards the end of my contract with the client I had been working with. I had to make a decision, stay on with the client or find a new client. At the time, I was so burned out that I didn’t think I had it in me to do either option. I decided it was time to jump. My original plan was to take a couple of months off and apply for other jobs. But, God had other plans for me. A week into unemployment, I was sitting in my bathroom trying to come up with a game plan and it hit me like a train. It was one of those Aha moments where the light bulb goes off in your head. I knew in that moment I was supposed to go into real estate full time. It all made sense. Real estate had always been such a big part of my life, but I just hadn’t realized it. From going to open houses with my mom when I was a kid to buying my first home which eventually led to flipping my first property. My passion was always there, I just couldn’t see it.
I am fully convinced that had I not taken a step back and quit my job, I wouldn’t have been able to see the full picture. I had been standing too close to the details of my life to see the next step. I remember hearing a quote one time that said, “boredom always precedes a period of great creativity.” That’s exactly what unemployment provided for me, boredom that led to creativity.
Friends, if you know deep in your soul you’re being called to something, my advice is to go. Take the leap and hold onto your faith. It will be worth it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a real estate agent with JBGoodwin REALTORS. My passion is helping people. I have always had a huge heart for others, and I get to do that every single day. My career is fueled by my love of people and passion for real estate. I specialize in helping buyers find a dream home and working with sellers to list their current homes. Buying or selling can be a stressful process and my goal with every client is to make it as enjoyable and fun as possible.
I am proud of my ability to build deep and meaningful relationships with my clients. For me, it’s not just about closing a deal. I care so much more about the people sitting on the other side of the table. Usually, people are looking to move because of a life change, whether it’s marriage, kids, divorce, a job change, empty nesters, etc. I get the privilege of being there with my clients during those new seasons of life and helping them purchase a huge financial investment. I have the best job in the world!
