Hi Chai and Sunkist, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey there! We are Chai and Sunkist, and we are Mad Over Exploring. When not working our 9 to 5 tech jobs, we create travel content that inspires our audiences to travel smart and explore America.
During our early dating years, we lived states apart and traveled to new destinations in between to meet and explore. Our friends would ask us for itineraries as they found our trips well-planned and filled with interesting spots and experiences.
Hence, I (Sunkist) started MOE as a hobby travel blog in 2019 to share travel hacks and destination recommendations across the USA. After a few months, even though Chai moved to the same state as me, our travels to new places did not cease.
In 2020 amid the pandemic, we joined forces and decided to take MOE a notch up. We identified that although there was a plethora of information available on the internet, travelers prefer to use social media more than ever to discover new places and experiences. Since then, we’ve been taking our audiences on our journeys virtually through Instagram and YouTube.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road to starting out as a content creator. With little prior experience, we had to upskill ourselves in content shooting, photo and video editing, social media management, brand outreach, and whatnot! On top of that, juggling between busy full-time tech jobs and content creation is still not easy. Nonetheless, we set aside dedicated time for both to stay more organized and disciplined.
Another challenge we faced was dividing our efforts on different platforms. For example, while IG and TikTok require quick, bite-sized, trending content, YouTube and blogs tend to be more detailed and evergreen. Fortunately, we’ve gotten better at estimating each of them and publishing it, keeping quality over quantity a priority.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We love sharing anything and everything travel-related – creative ways to save time and money on travels, hidden gems of this country, unique accommodations, breathtaking adventures, and delicious food recommendations.
Our IG stories, highlights, reels, and posts are not only fun and engaging but also informative. We have been appreciated by our followers for adding more value to the captions of the in-feed content with detailed steps, lists, tips, and more.
Our YouTube videos aim to capture and present a destination or experience through comprehensive guides, itineraries, and vlogs. We take a similar approach with blogs, except they are text and pictures.
While Chai prefers urban, chic cities to explore, Sunkist is always down for a hike at any national park. Our travel recommendations strike a remarkable balance that almost all groups, families, and couples find helpful in planning their vacations.
What sets us apart from several other “travel influencers” is that our experiences are more attainable. In addition, our audiences find us more relatable as we are just like most of them, millennial 9 to 5 workers who want to maximize their holidays and vacation time on a budget.
