Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Porter.
Hi Claire, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Claire Porter lives in the Texas Hill Country, southwest of Austin, Texas. At the young age of 10, Claire fell in love with horses, and spent time showing horses in the western region throughout High School. After college she showed as an amateur owner as well as trained some young horses that went on to have great success on the east coast “A” circuit.
She received a BFA from Southern Methodist University focusing on Photography, Painting and Etching. Over the years, she usually had her camera in hand; but not until a few years ago did she decide to travel on a photo safari to photograph horses and cowboy imagery. As a result of that inspirational experience Claire’s two worlds joined together.
Ms. Porter is passionate about creating emotional equine photographs. Her fine art images evoke the elegance, power and grace of the majestic equus. During her process of selecting and developing an image, she seeks interesting compositions that create tensions or possess a serene sense of simplicity through dramatic light. She enhances the strengths of her images and beautifies them through great attention to detail: inviting you to be within the scene and emotionally touched by her art. In the excitement of the thrilling moment captured, she strives to touch your heart and reach your soul through her breathtaking images.
Her images have been exhibited at the Alice Rice Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA and are currently exhibiting at the MESH Gallery in Ketchum, ID, Art of 12 in Wimberley, TX, and Austin Art and Frame in Austin, TX. “All Winter Long” was a Finalist in 2018 Cowboy and Indians Magazine Photography Contest, “Cowgirl Poncho recently won 3rd. place at the ‘Art of the Horse’ Show and Sale in California and others have been recognized by Canon USA.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a pretty steady measured road until I took my work out to Roundtop a couple of years ago. I have my work in two locations at Roundtop. From that, I became inspired to reimagine my work by designing luxury scarves also printed with my equine images. They have added a strong supplimental revenue stream. Particularly here in Austin, for the UT market, I offer scarves printed with my incredible Longhorn images, you’ve got to see them!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Equine Photographer, a small niche, and have been for over twelve years. I photograph wild mustangs, large ranch herds, cowboy imagery and longhorns. I specialize in capturing the “action” and have the benefit of great patience yielding some extraordinary scenes. I think I am known first for my action shots and then for the connection to the image that the viewer experience; my images are said o be emotional.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
hmmm don’t really have a comment about this, sorry
