Daily Inspiration: Meet Cody Coffey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Coffey.

Hi Cody, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hidden Floors emerged in early 2023, born out of jam sessions and restless ambition in a North Austin rehearsal space. What started as loose, progressive-leaning jams between guitarist Dieter Geisler and the original drummer quickly evolved into something bigger—something urgent. Vocalist Cody Coffey caught wind of the sound they were chasing and stepped in, adding melody and poetry into the mix. Guitarist Sam Attridge and bassist Quin Bedard completed the lineup, and the band spent the next year refining a sound that balanced classic rock’s rawness with modern psychedelia’s expansiveness, laced with a metallic edge.

Momentum was on their side—until it wasn’t. As 2024 loomed, just before heading into the studio, Jeffs departed to front his own project, throwing the band into a moment of uncertainty. Instead of stalling out, Hidden Floors doubled down, pushing their writing into darker, heavier, more chaotic territory while searching for the right drummer to bring it to life.

By summer, another new drummer briefly took the reins, helping Hidden Floors reestablish their live presence before their departure at the year’s end. Enter current drummer Alex Acosta—introduced through the Austin underground—and with him, a renewed sense of direction.

Now, in 2025, the band is fully locked in, self-producing their debut EP with John Hutchinson at Outhouse Studios. Their first single drops in September, marking the next chapter in the Hidden Floors story—louder, bolder, and more unrelenting than ever.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have faced a lot of the same struggles and growing pains that most bands do in their first year or two of life. Outside of what we’ve described in our bio about having to replace multiple drummers, we’ve also struggled with learning how to effectively communicate and write together. There’s a power that comes along with being able to collaborate on newborn songs; a magical thing that happens when we as individuals learn to listen and make compromises for the betterment of a song that we’re working on as a band.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Hidden Floors has grown up around the idea that songs can be pulled from the void where they exist before humans pull them over to this side. They’re like solid blocks of marble before an improvised rhythm or melody cuts the silence into a figure containing emotion and movement. Cody’s lyrics are often a reaction to the instrumentation and reflect the inner workings of an active poetic imagination. What we end up creating is a product of listening to each other. We’d like to think we specialize in connecting people, not just to our music, but to another level or version of themselves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck or fate or whatever you want to call it has acted in big ways for us as a group. We all make plans and those plans are almost always challenged or shut down. It’s in how we’ve reacted to those changes…those twists and turns in the road…that has made us the group we are today. There was a time, after we lost our second drummer, when some of us felt we may be cursed. It felt like perhaps the universe was telling us to stay down and not continue trying to work through the adversity. We loved what we had built enough to pick it right back up, dust it off, and keep rocking.
