Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Guevara.
Hi Dan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Dan Guevara I was born in Georgetown TX I learned how to play the guitar at the age of 17. Before I knew it, I was writing songs- lots of songs. I began performing at open mics all over the Georgetown/Austin area and met a lot of amazing people along the way. Music has always been my outlet to the world. I grew up in a very sheltered, religious home. I was home-schooled and had very little connection to the real world. I went to my first show in downtown Austin when I was 16 and it was there that something in me came alive. From that point on, I knew all I wanted to do was perform and connect with like-minded people like myself. Music became my religion and going to shows was my church.
Later I joined a singer-songwriter group lead by my good friend and fellow musician/producer, Alex Winters. It was there that I once again was inspired and began to write like crazy. Two years later, I went on to record my first EP, Lost in Austin, at King Electric Studios in Austin and released it on April of 2019. I got my music up on Spotify and have been playing all over central TX ever since. In August of 2021, I went on to record my next single, Anthony, produced by Alex Winters at Black Roses Recordings. My next single, Anthony, is about a near and dear friend of mine who has struggled with Alcohol Addiction for many years. Over the past year, he has turned a new leaf and is starting to get his life back together again. He is now one year sober and doing better than ever. I would like for my song to help those who struggle with alcohol addiction and to bring awareness of it. I want to let people, like my friend Anthony, know that they are not alone.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first Attempted to get my music career off the ground, I knew nothing about the business so I signed a contract with a former friend promising to help get my music Distributed Recorded and played on the radio. Long story short, I was cheated out of the deal false promises were made and my record did not see the light until nearly two years after it was recorded. I decided that I had enough I had worked too hard on this record and I wasn’t going to give up so I found another producer Aaron Kemkaran finished the record and released it in April of 2019. Moral of the story is be careful of whom you go into business with and always read the fine print.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am Chef by day. I manage a cafe at Brookwood in Georgetown a nonprofit organization that helps provide jobs and living for adults with special needs.
I love each and every one of the Citizens and my co-workers. If you ever stop by check out the shop almost all of the items are handmade by the citizens it is such a beautiful cause and all of the proceeds go to Scholarships for adults with special needs.
I am a definitely a huge foodie! I Love hitting up all the local food trucks and to create my own works of art.
By Night I am a traveling singer-songwriter. I feel most alive and connected to the world when I perform on stage. When I see people singing and dancing along to my music, it is the greatest feeling in the world. It is what drives me inspires me.
I am most proud of being able to connect with people through my music.
Releasing my first EP.
Being my own booking agent/promoting all of my own shows.
Managing a cafe that raises money for such a beautiful cause.
