Daily Inspiration: Meet Dia Miskovitz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dia Miskovitz.

Hi Dia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
FeralKinds is a daydream turned reality. Years ago, a friend and I used to alter our own clothes together and as we cut and sewed, we’d dream up a shop space filled with reworked relics and unique pieces. Sustainability and inclusivity were always the most important part of our imaginary space. Basically, we just wanted a cozy space to work out of that others could come and enjoy too. When Covid hit, like others, I had a lot more time on my hands and while a physical shop space wasn’t realistic, I created an online space instead. FeralKinds has been growing ever since. The clothes change as we become inspired by new things, but at our core we’re still the same shop my friend and I dreamed up while we made our own clothes all those years ago.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh of course not! We started during the beginning of quarantine so obviously that was a struggle because we couldn’t be out and about sourcing things to rework, we just had to work with what we already had. And then as the world began opening back up, trying to figure out ways to safely go out into our community to promote was hard too. We’ve been able to navigate through though and have really hit a stride recently which is so rewarding!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The concept behind all of our pieces is giving new life to items that are no longer functional or sought after as they are. So for example, we love to source items that might have too many holes or might be way off trend and then mend or rework the items into unique, fun, wearable pieces of art. I’d say we’re best known for our quilted jackets and reworked wide leg jeans. What sets us apart is our inclusivity! We make our ready to wear pieces in a wide range of styles and sizes, but we also offer all of our items as made to order pieces so that you can order items that will fit you perfectly.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was the kid that stood out in every crowd because of my big hair and funky fashion, but I was completely oblivious to it. I thought I blended right in. I was loud and vibrant around people I knew best but quiet in a group of strangers. I had a really intimate group of friends and spent a lot of time with my family. And I was always, always, always into my outfits.
