Daily Inspiration: Meet Erik Leslie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Leslie. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Brandon and Erik are the co-founders of Modern Mindfulness, a company that specializes in teaching individuals and organizations on how they can apply mindfulness to their lives and business. We do this through training mindfulness teachers how to grow their business as well as sharing mindfulness trainings to corporations in the Austin area. We are creating a path for mindfulness to be popularized and used more in our culture and workspace through modern mindfulness framework.

Erik is a certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher from the Univ. of Massachusetts Medical School & has his Masters in Psychology from Univ. of Denver. With 15+ years of experience he has designed mindfulness courses for organizations including the Special Forces, Apache Pilots & many of Darnell’s Hospital Clinics; as well as teaching many mental health professionals how to use mindfulness to change the lives of their clients.

In 2016, Brandon founded Shanghai Mindfulness — now known as Modern Mindfulness. A community of more than 7,000 students in Shanghai, China and now around the world. Brandon is ultra passionate about teaching mindfulness in a relatable way that resonates with all forms of people. He loves teaching others to be teachers and consciously collaborating with all to share mindfulness with the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is full of challenges. Covid, marketing, having a clear vision, innovating or staying consistent, isolating problems if something isn’t working, teamwork or even staying balanced are all struggles that we’ve had to overcome along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I worked as a mindfulness teacher for the military for six years working with apache helicopter pilots, special forces and infantry units. I have a background in performance psychology from University of Denver or sport psychology and I can slow down my heart rate and brainwave states fairly quickly when hooked up to biofeedback machines.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I loved playing sports as a kid. One year I played over 100 baseball games and I was a high school quarterback throwing for over 3,000 yards.
