Daily Inspiration: Meet Fielding Pierce Biggs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fielding Pierce Biggs.

Hi Fielding Pierce, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Central Virginia. I spent most of my life immersed in Community theatre and even went to a high school for performing arts. My life really took Flight when I attended the Fashion Institute of technology for fashion design. this experience opens me up to a whole world that small-town Virginia would have never been able to offer. While in NYC I began to work with MAC cosmetics and my love affair with all things Beauty was lit off fire. after about four years in the city I decided to move home. I then got my cosmetology license. In Virginia, I worked for a large salon Called Moxie. I spent nine years with this company and they showed me that I could have the freedom to be the kind of artist that I wanted to be. while with this company, I got a chance to work with some of the best in the industry. I’ve done Fashion week in NYC with Oribe, I became an Educator with Goldwell, and I pursued my love of editorial work with many collaborative photoshoots. My last shoot before leaving Virginia was Featured in Vogue Italia. and just as life and change always happen, my personal life was in a bit of a mess. I ended up going through a Divorce, as that was taking place Covid happened. and then I turned 35. this was a year ago. I came to Austin on vacation and fell in love instantly, fast forward I’m now here and loving the thriving changing environment. I’m now at Shag salon building my new life here in ATX.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the road to where I am has been filled with many obstacles. the journey of embracing change is learning to accept obstacles and then allowing them to become a lesson or knowledge. I’m a firm believer that the universe is leading us to the right place and even if the path has bumps along the way they are there for us. My lesson as of now is not to force anything, Not to force love, Work, relationships, experiences, anything. if I put my best effort in then I have to sit back and see what happens. I spent a large part of my life manipulating situations so that they would work out the way that I wanted. when I did this I never got anything authentic back in return, so I was always left feeling empty even after getting what I desired so much. in sitting back and letting things happen organically I’m much more appreciative of what I receive and it also tends to be a bit more exciting that way. the path ahead is always full of challenges but it’s what you do with them that counts.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I’m a Master Stylist, I have a background in Fashion, Makeup and Hair. I love being a stylist cause it connects all of my loves in Beauty together. I specialize in Color, Balayage, Extensions, Cutting, Bridal and Styling. I’m most proud of my editorial photoshoots. these tend to be my happy place. I love the collaboration of shoots. My work was recently published in Vogue Italia and that was a major moment for me. I think something that sets me apart is that I create with a whole vision in mind. I’m very in tune with how people present themselves and I’m always inspired and build my art off of others’ authentic selves. I think also being a jack of all trades is a talent of mine as well. I’m old school in the way that I think you should ultimately be well versed in all things of your craft.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
This is a very valid question for me right now. Moving to ATX I left a salon that I had been at for nine years, so in a way, I feel very much that I am starting a new again. I think one of the most important things is to find a place in which you can be yourself and you feel comfortable letting your light shine with your co-workers. when I first arrived I was at another salon and it just wasn’t the right fit. I realized then how much that affects you’re overall spirit and feeling. now that I have found a salon that allows me to be myself and shine I wake up wanting to go to work and create my art and give my all to my clients. How you feel on a daily basis in your environment is so important. I would also say that it’s important to check out multiple locations of employment so you have a comparison of them all. Just because it looks good on social media doesn’t mean that it will feel the same in person. check out all options before deciding on your work home. After that absorb information and technique from everyone around you. from your most seasoned stylist to the newest one, everyone has something to teach you. and the industry is always changing. sharing your talent with others is how you stay relevant and on top of your skill set. Finally, knowledge is power. those who quit learning get stuck, and in this industry it shows. whether it’s online learning or in person, it dopant matter how you get it. but staying up to date with new ideas is a must.
